several years ago my wife and I went to Ryan field to see Mich. State play Northwestern. It was october and I beieve it was Northwesterns second home game. It was a beautiful day and Ryan field was sold out. At the time our son was a student at Michigan State and we got our tickets through our son. It was a great game and with three minutes left in the first half, I went to get my wife and I a hot dog. There were very few refreshment stands at Ryan field so I got in line. When my turn came I ordered three hot dogs and two cokes. I was amazed when the sales clerk told me that they were out of hot dogs. My comment was “This is why Northwestern will never play in a BCS game and will be a perrenial door mat in the big ten.” I’ve been to Notre Dame and most of the big ten schools for football games and I can honestly say the most pathetic place to watch a college football game is Ryan field, and I haven’t addressed the parking which is a aseparate nightmare. Obviously Mr. Mandel has never attended a Notre Dame, Northwestern or big ten football game….I bet he writes his drivel while channel surfing college football on his TV.

This garbage is typical of Mandel who never misses a chance to try to get in a shot on Notre Dame. As for Fitzgerald, he’s a bit of a knot head who wouldn’t be the head coach at Northwestern if Randy Walker didn’t have a heart attack.

Thank you for writing an item about the Irish without lambasting them. Yes, the Navy loss was horrible but it is apparent many of the columnist enjoy kicking them when they are down. It pains them to ever write a good word so after the Navy game theirplates are full. All too often many writers create controversies and then they will write about them. again reading your article made my day. Incidentally the Navy game was my 85th consecutive home game.

the only thing that kept me from writing Stewart Mandel and pointing this out was that I couldn’t figure out a place to get the records.
By these standards ND has been winning consistently since the 70s, with one off year.
