We’ve seen a lot of head coaches, in years past, say they were staying with their respective teams. I can recall Saban staying at Louisiana State; then at Miami. Remember Rich Rodriguez? How about Urban Meyer staying at Utah?
The bottom line, though, is that a head coach at the University of Notre Dame is NOT a dream job for someone who already has their dream job. If Stoops is serious, it’s likely because he already enjoys his current position at OU too much to risk the rebuilding process in South Bend. But, I am not one to think that he’s completely unwilling to even consider coaching Notre Dame.
One final note is this: it’s unfortunate, again, that Notre Dame alumni and those who are “sources” continue to leak the names of people interested in the job. It harms those who are applying — and it makes the university look bad, too.
