We'll find out more tomorrow when Charlie Weis addresses the media, but multiple media sources are reporting that quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in a fight late Saturday/early Sunday morning outside a South Bend bar.
First reported by David Kaplan of Chicago WGN-AM radio, the Chicago Tribune's Brian Hamilton has more of the details.
Details of the brouhaha vary greatly, from Kaplan's original report, to Hamilton's story, to Joe Schad reportingon Twitter at ESPN.com that Clausen was "sucker-punched in the face outside a South Bend eatery," which would fit, because I'd hardly call C.J.'s the scene for a late-night bar fight.
I tend to believe that the truth, as it always does, lies somewhere in the middle. Either way, it's not the situation you want the captain of your team to find himself in at two in the morning the night after a loss probably sealed the fate of your head coach.
It'll be interesting to see how ESPN runs this this story. They could play it up like the overblown beer pong photos or talk about how sad it is that someone would be a big enough jerk to fight the starting quarterback of the football team in his own college town the night of a devastating loss.
Either way, here's hoping Jimmy's fine and ready to play well against Stanford. I can't imagine, barring video evidence of Clausen taking a stool to a guy or getting into an Anchorman like brawl, that he'd be suspended for this one.

Starting quarterback and team captain Jimmy Clausen was involved in an altercation outside a South Bend, Ind., bar in the hours following a double-overtime loss to Connecticut on Saturday, taking a punch to the face in the incident, sources told the Tribune.
The Irish QB suffered at least one black eye as a result of the punch, according to a source. A spokesman for Charlie Weis said he could not reach the Irish coach for comment Monday night.
A South Bend police spokesman said Monday no police reports were filed over the weekend that involved Clausen.

Clausen punched by irate fan
What the hell is the matter with so many of our fans........??????
We beat down our coach so badly, and yet still expect him to be perfect. And now, literally, we beat down our super star QB......
I am a die hard ND fan, if u cut me, i will bleed blue and gold. I live and breath notre dame football. But i am ashamed at how much we disgrace ourselves. The words spoken and actions taken by people that call themselves my peers and comrades are disgusting to me. Where is our integrity? our honor? our tradition? all things that made me fall in love with ND as a kid because other football programs didnt have that. or if they did, they couldnt compete on the level of a program as powerful as the great and mighty Notre Dame.....now what are we? are we the Catholics? or the freakin Convicts? You tell me??????/
Im so sick of it. Look at yourself in the mirror, and ask yourself, are you part of the solution? or the problem?

Probably running his mouth about how he's the best quarterback to ever have lived in the history of the world in the entire universe.
Jimmy was most likely running his mouth. But how can you hate your own QB? if jimmy was on any other team he would be target #1. I would be SHOCKED if a fan punched him. it was most likely one of his 3000 girlfriends.
Brandon, I sympathize with your feelings, but I think you're being both a bit hasty and quite a bit overly dramatic.
First, the facts aren't in. No one has video of the incident. And even if there was video, we wouldn't know the whole story. WAS the person who hit Clausen actually an ND fan? Or is that just how the "source" interpreted it? One thing I can tell you from my experience as a trial lawyer is that eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable. And whoever was outside a bar at 2:30 a.m. probably isn't the most credible witness you could dream up. Was the "source" drinking, too? How far away was "the source" when this happened? Was his or her view obstructed? What did they even see? Did they see the whole incident unfold, or did they just hear a shout and then see a crowd gathering around a tall guy who was holding his face?
And I think you're making a bit too much of this incident. Even assuming arguendo that an actual ND fan punched Clausen, I don't think that reflects on ND fans as a whole. There's no need to look yourself in the mirror because of what some (probably) drunken idiot chose to do. If, tomorrow, some guy in a Marcus Allen jersey robs a bank, I see no need to turn myself in. The overwhelming majority of college football fans, let alone ND fans, are well-behaved people who just like to cheer for their team.
MY question is, assuming that Clausen was, as reported, there with his family and a "female acquaintance," how did he manage to put himself in a position to be in a headline-grabbing altercation? According to the reports, someone said something to him and/or his female acquaintance. I don't know what happened. But I know that if I was out with my family and my girl, and someone says something stupid, I'm not going to get in a fight in front of my Mom and my girl. My Mom would probably smack me upside the head for doing so, if I did.
And how come he didn't dodge the punch? "Sucker punch?" He's an athlete in the prime of his life. Reflexes shouldn't be an issue as against some drunken fan who takes a wild swing. I may be being a bit churlish here. :)
All in all, it will make for some embarrassing press, and it will distract the media from the "this is likely the last time Charlie Weis walks the halls of the Gug" or "this is likely the last time Charlie Weis walks out of the tunnel" or "this is likely the last time Charlie Weis does X" countdown they're currently obsessed with.
It DOES go to show that not even ND players are immune from being in the headlines for embarrassing reasons. It also serves as a reminder that players in the spotlight need to use their heads about putting themselves in situations that could reflect badly on their teammates or the program or the university.
But I don't think it means ND fans are convicts. No police report was filed, so the person who punched Clausen isn't a convict, unless he had a prior conviction. :)
So don't worry, Brandon. All is not lost. Just a few too many football games. In the grand scheme of things, that's not such a big deal. ND is still a great college and it still has a lot to be proud of in terms of its football program's history.
I am not a ND fan - actually can't stand them. But I give serious kudos to Brandon because the reason I hate ND is the reason he speaks of.
ND had its heydey - and hasn't been there in 2 decades or more. The unbelievable expectations the media and it's fans place on the coaches and players is ridiculous. Sometimes it's better to focus on the traditions - the colors, the integrity etc. The media and the boosters and apparently some random punk focuses on the records. It's going to be a while before ND sets any records. It's still a great school.
Michael, good post. I agree.
I do count myself as an Irish fan, but I am a bigger fan of USC, my alma mater, which of course is ND's biggest rival. It would be easy to come in here and kick Clausen (or punch him!) when he's down, and talk trash about the ND program. But that wouldn't be right and would show a disturbing lack of class.
I'd like to be judged by how I treat people weaker than me when no one is watching, and by how I treat my rivals when things aren't going well for them. I think you showed class by pointing out that ND is still a great school, etc. Well done.
This is also a potentially telling moment for Clausen's career. I think back to what Pat Riley asked his Laker team back in the 80's: "What do you get when you squeeze an orange?" "Orange juice." When you put someone or something under pressure, you get what is inside. You find out what a person's true character is when you put them under pressure.
So far at least, Clausen has not handled pressure ON the field very well. He gets frustrated and angry at the end of ball games, and he was almost a zombie after the UConn loss. It will be interesting to see how he responds to this OFF-the-field pressure. He claims to have learned and grown since the alcohol incidents he was involved in a couple of years ago.
Sounds like Clausen was " Talking when he should have been listening" but the facts aren't in yet. The only thing we know for sure is that 100% of bar fights happen in bars.
From what I have heard on legitimate news sites, Jimmy Clausen was defending Charlie Weis when someone with more brawn then brains cold cocked him. Only reason no charges were pressed was that the coward ran before he could be caught. Sigh. Only close-minded and weak hearted alumni would go after a kid who gets upset because he cares, and who "behaved like a zombie" because some idiot reporter asked if he was leaving ND because he had no support among the fans! Please! Most schools would love to have a Jimmy Clausen who has grown up a lot this year...or a coach who cares that much about having students graduate as well as win.
Spare me, jtbwriter. The kids at the "football factories" get upset because THEY care. They get judged for it. Clausen shouldn't have been in that situation. If you are excusing that, then you're practicing situational ethics, unless you would also excuse the off-the-field behavior of "kids" (actually, young men) at OTHER programs who end up in embarrassing headlines.
ND fans all over this site and elsewhere bloviate about what stellar young men they field on their football teams, and distinguish said young men from the "thugs" at other programs. Clausen and every other high-profile player at every major program get taught about how to conduct themselves in public. I don't see that Charlie Weis needed defending outside a bar. He needed defending on the field against UConn, and Clausen would have been a damned sight better off playing a better game, rather than talking one.
1. brian hamilton has been a shill on the payrolls of notre dame's enemies for many years.
2. jimmy clausen would never start a fight, but, like us, would respond if attacked by some drunken cowards who should be arrested and put behind bars in jails.
3. we have watched jimmy clausen on the field all season and at interviews. jimmy's character and courage are quite evident.
4. brian hamilton and his shill friends can take their latest weis and notre dame bashing garbage, along with the rest of their garbage, and shove it all where the sun does not shine.
5. brian hamilton is simply frustrated because, despite his numerous imminent resignation and firing articles, charlie is not resigning and notre dame is not firing charlie and his staff.
6. so,brian and his fellow weis and notre dame bashing shills at the south bend tribune, eric hansen, al lesar, and bob wieneke concocted this latest phony attack on jimmy in another desperate attempt to get at charlie and at notre dame.
7. we will find out in the civil courts for certain. however, we will not be suprised to find out that someone connected with brian hamilton, eric hansen, al lesar, and/or bob wieneke arranged for these thugs to attack jimmy.
8.hamilton, hansen, lesar, and wieneke were already on our list for complete economic extremination in the civil courts anyway.
9. we have been tracking their activities for quite a while.
10. like so many other participants in crooked college sports enterprises, they will each be stunned at how much we already know about their illegal activities already.
GO IRISH!!!
robertg, if I loan you the funds to buy a used mimeograph machine, will you promise to publish a weekly newsletter? You're unintentionally hilarious.

stephen of troy,
1. since you have already donated all of your materal possessions to me, how could you possibly have any assets to loan to me or to anyone else?
2. apparently, our posts still bother you and those like you and, despite your demands, keith and his staff still do not block any posts, not even yours.
3. we look foward to seeing you cry in the civil courts and then in the bk courts. we will make the videos of those events available on youtube.
4. your hero oj was laughing also, until he got hauled off to jail in chains.
5. if the decision had been up to us, we would just have stripped o j of all of his material possessions and left him to fend for himself on the streets.
6. until you have no email address and no computer, post away.
GO IRISH!!!
1.robertg
2.your posts are intriguing
3. please share more about this upcoming litigation
4. to shame these evil "journalists"
5. ps - please do not sue me
6. pss - i am a trojans fan
7. psss - they are not as good this year as in years past
8. pssss - but they still managed to p3wn the Domers
9. psssss - again
I'm a huge ND fan myself but everyone can tell clausen is a brat. He's always backtalking to these bigger guys on the field so you know he probably does the same thing on the outside. He's a rich boy that's gotta realize that to be a good qb and celebrity, you gotta learn to keep your cool.
robertg
1. what a sad little man you are
2. the irish will always have bad coaches until they schedule teams that actually play division 1
3. your team is not even a very good division 2 team
4. jimmy clausen is very overated, getting most of his yards in comeback attempts when there is soft defenses
5. you really are a johnny cochran wannabe arent you?
6. the only conspiracy is the one you dream of to make sad excuses for the poor play, poor recruiting that has gone on since ty was fired. he actually had your program going in the right direction
7. dough boys 2 winning seasons were with ty's teams...good job....see john gruden after dungy left
I encouraged everyone to goggle Bob Gilleran and see if he and robertg are indeed the same.
mrandolph: I did and went to this site: http://jgwebblogs.typepad.com/notre_dame/2007/10/its-a-mailbag-1.html
His amailbag questions certainly seem to fit the inane ramblings of robertg.
Funny. Back in 2007 he was predicting Federal indictments for Pete Carroll and USC. Although he insinuated that USC would be back "with integrity" after Carroll was gone. From what I gather, a program has integrity if ND can beat them. But if they can't then they are crooked and the subject of a Federal investigation. At the rate ND is going, this means College Football as we know it should cease to exist in about another year or two. Frankly, with their history, ND doesn't deserve a bunny boiler for a "fan" like robertg. Gotta take the good w/the bad I suppose though.
This is really hysterical. I have hated Notre Dame for years for the same reason that I've hated USC - any time anyone gets to the point where they think they are bigger than the game or bigger than the sport, I love to watch them lose.
Let's face it, Notre Dame is a mere shadow of what they used to be, and the die-hard devotion from saps around the country who have never even been there is laughable.
Let them win something and let them stop looking stupid for a change... then they deserve all of the fans that they have, even the wannabees.
And for what it's worth, Jimmy Claussen is looking just about as draftable as Chris Turner. Go look THAT one up.
Claussen probably threw a punch, but missed the open receiver.
hey, Chris Turner's dad was the original drummer for Ratt! so he's got that going for him, which is nice
Yeah, Bak, but John Turner failed and "got benched" just like his son did. Quite the crybaby legacy in that family. Chris will do well running a Burger King.
Geez, Here we go! This is just one reason why all of this Charlie Weis talk is not just about coaching. Now we have this report that Jimmy Clausen has been ivolved in an off field incident. When a season like this one happens no matter at what school or for what team emotions and feelings are always bruised and the anger surfaces, words are thrown about, insults are tossed around and someone raises things to the physical level. The student athletes at Notre Dame are not shielded from this type of thing but they must make an effort to stay above these situations. When you are in public you are representing the school, your team but most importantly yourself, do not let the emotion and anger change your personality. None of us know how this entire situation is going to work out as fans and alumni we hope it works out. We are all hopeful that the program rebounds and that we are blessed with many years of success. We serve no purpose by talking down to people, mistreating people, fighting with people all this type of behavior does is further unravel our program, bring dishonor to our school and cause undue stress in all of our lives and the lives of those involved in these happenings. STAY CLASSY NOTRE DAME STUDENTS AND FANS, things will get better. Afterall, after a season like this we have no where to go but up!

Robertg, I am guessing from your rambling list that you did not go to Notre Dame. Your sentence structure and grammar are horrible. You propose that journalists arranged an assault on Jimmy Claussen, you apparently are a master of frivolous law suits. Were you a huge X Files fan? You are a loser, but you "already" knew this "already." I hope one day you also end up "put behind bars, in jails."
Wow, thank you bolsh. Looked at your two links, and combined they tell an amazing story.
robertg, I wish you well, and I honestly hope that you might be able to find the kind of help that can lead you to some peace and comfort in your life.
That made my day!! I hadn't seen anything from him in a while, & I was starting to worry. RobG is a comedic genius, imho....
Claussen is a punk, he probably got what he deserved.
His spoiled brat attitude has been obvious since he arrived.
His body language on the field is negative towards his teammates, and to him, it's never his fault.
Hope he enjoys the Humanaterian Bowl in Boise.
Dear ND,
You'd do well to call that mural by it's rightful name "The Word of Life" instead of blaspheming my son's name. If that happens, maybe I'll let you win a couple more.
-god
Your the convicts and just plain losers that should really be 2-9.
Thanks Well said Robert. They are trying to attack the only leg Charlie is standing on right now. which is the leg of leadership. Charlie is a great leader. jimmy is an awesome leader and has come through in many high pressure situations. This team could go into the national Championship game this year and still beat whatever opponent comes their way. The Media just needs to leave them alone.
AMEN BE A TRUE ND FAN AND STAND BEHIND OUR TEAM WE WILL NEVER GET TO WHERE WE WANT TO BE DOING WHAT WE HAVE BEEN THE LAST 10 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Easy with the personal attacks people. I don't think we should be google searching any of our commenters, and I think I might shut this thread down...
Agree with him or not, RobertG has a right to post, a right to not capitalize, and a right to talk about cool things like RICO charges and all the other stuff I see on cable TV.
I love robertg's posts and want to see more, but when he threatens civil litigation to "economically exterminate" other posters he better expect to be called out.
Gentlemen, I have read your comments and must say how a shame I am of you. Let's remember what ND was constructed for, learning and following the word of God. Yes, we can get excited about our sports
programs, but actually fight over something, that someone may or may not have said. Shame on you all. I attended TN, AS, BS and ND
my Phd. You might say I am well educated and education makes you feel no more smarter than the next guy or gal. But bashing your school, someone has to draw the line. If you don't like ND, stay off the site, we don't want to here your un-educated remarks. Why don't you direct them towards the Pope or even God himself. Oh, wouldn't that go over well. I don't care what religion you are, I feel sorry for all of you that make these type remarks on a blog.
Go look in a mirror and bash yourself and then ask the almighty to forgive you. Remember this, "forgive them father, for they no not what they do". Try to live my these words. It's only a sport, life
will go on, soldiers will be killed and your love ones will die of
cancer. All I can say, is God bless each one of you. I'll say a little prayer and try to take the hate out of your hearts.
Dr Coppinger. Thank you so much for the remarks and forgiveness. I guess as young kids, we shoot our mouths off a little too much. I
never bash another school, no use, if they beat you on Saturday, that day they were better than you. True, if ND plays hard and mis-take free, they could win. But as Lou Holtz said, "you can be beat on any given Saturday, if you aren't prepared". Who's fault is that, does the coach drop a perfect pass, no, does he miss a block, no, does he commit a personal foul, no. He just teaches you not to commit these mistakes and play with heart. One reason I love
college football, they are not paid to perform, at least I would thank so. The sport has come a long way, but each of us could learn
from some of the stuff that you read on this site. Hate makes you do and say alot of stuff, let's worry more about our soldiers overseas, that would love to watch these games and be with their
families at Thanksgiving. Yet, we worry about something we can't
control, just like Charlie, he's just a coach, he's not perfect.
If he is back next year, so be it, but if he is fired, he remains a very rich man. You and I could only dream of that kind of money. After he leaves, do you think it will bother him? Money is the root
of all evil, he could care less. Don't you get it, no one really cares for the true reason we watch, the players, but without them
the college worries about the one thing the DOLLAR!
Play with heart, play hard, do your best, that's all I ask.
Well I do remember robertg threatening to file suit against someone, at least Stephen of Troy (separate article I think, but alluded to here). When someone threatens, however empty in reality that threat is, it's discomforting at least. Look, I'm not saying anything bad about robertg, I think, but it's understandable that it can escalate on either side of the issue. It's all of our jobs, including robertg, to just be more prudent and considerate in our posts. Yes, some of it can be drivel. Peace!
Comment 25 was well said.
Comment 25 was well said except that there are thugs on the Irish as well, you can take the student out of his hood so to speak but you cant take the hood so to speak out of the student. This is a case where Mr. Clausen deserves a one game sit down for being involved in an after hours altercatuion....what time was he going to mass being out with a woman at a bar at 2 a.m.?
JSMUCKLEY, I think it would do you good to count to ten before your next posting. Everyone who has read the recent articles about the fire that Charlie Weis is under has not questioned or should not question his reverence or respect for the school. I believe he is very genuine in the care he shows for the football program and the care he shows for his players and other coaches. Out of all the things that have recently been questioned about Charlie Weis I don't think his caring, professionalism or work habits should be among them.
The thought of money being the root of all evil, I personally think that it is the lust for money that is the root of all evil not the money. Charlie Weis will leave Notre Dame a wealthy man whether he is fired or resigns, and he most likely will not have a difficult time finding another high paying job. None of the high paid coaches or players that we see daily in the sports world are perfect they have their share of problems and characher flaws just like everyone else it's just that they are not allowed to show them because the public will rip them apart. The last thing is coaches CANNOT teach players to play with heart that is something you do or do not. Hey, that is good Do or Do not there is no try, that little green fellow I wonder if he is available to hire as a motivational coach?
BigMike4562, I've read the reports and articles about this incident and he was with his parents at a resturant and may have been with a female. That gives exactly no one the right to verbally or physically attack Jimmy. Jimmy Clausen is an adult and if he stays out to 4am and still makes it to mass and does what he knows and feels is right I don't see where he should be suspended for anything. I believe most of the reports have him being suckered punched, now I do not know as I was not there. Big Mike are you offering on the spot reporting about this incident or do you have some type of axe to grind with Jimmy Clausen. If you were the person sucker punched Big Mike would you be expecting to be suspended just for being out with family and a female friend?
Cj's has fights there all the time. Police are there more than Corby's. Every weekend someone is getting into a skirmish at CJ's. The place is a dive and the food (what little they have) sucks. It's bar food so if you are drunk it's awesome if not it's burnt and shitty.
How bout this question what is your star quarterback doing at a first class dump like CJ's in the slums of SouthBend at 2:30 in the morning in the first place? I didnt think you were supposed to celebrate losing to connecticut? Brian Kelly cant get here soon enough!
Yeah i think its a shame Clausen would be into that "whole scene" down at good ol' CJ's with the sloppy ate up bar tender guy whos always pissed off all the time, and everyone knows its notorious for crime and corruption not to mention internal prostitution , gambling, dope dealing etc. But hey not too much surprises me anymore, i feel bad for Jimmy boy but when you hang out in lower class, flea infested establishments thats what happens to you
You're right, James, robertg DID threaten to sue me, force me into bankruptcy, humiliate me in public, post the humiliating results on YouTube, take away all my material possessions, et cetera. Not a peep from Keith Arnold about ANY OF THAT.
But when someone suggests that another person writes in a similar deranged fashion as robertg, here comes Mr. Arnold to let us know he might shut this thread down. But wait, wouldn't that run afoul of robertg's gloating about how, thanks to his efforts against John Taylor at CFT, Keith Arnold cannot delete or refuse to post any comments? I'm confused!
Note carefully that Jimmy Clausen didn't get "sucker punched." That's a crock. He hit the other guy first, by "pushing" him in the throat. What kind of push lands on someone's throat? Clausen hit the guy, plain and simple. He got hit back. In the eye. That's not a sucker punch. That's self-defense. And Clausen should have been able to dodge it. Of course, he should have been able to avoid getting sacked TWICE IN A ROW at the end of the Navy game, the second one for a safety. But at Ned Flanders said, "let's not should this fella to death." That said, it's nonsense to say that Clausen got sucker-punched. He should have seen the punch coming, since he STARTED the altercation. It didn't come out of nowhere as he was minding his own business on his way to study hall. He tried to start a fight and ended up getting worse than he gave. Reports say that the two men wrestled on the ground for a few seconds after Clausen got socked in the eye, and before "the fight" was broken up.
Someone, anyone, please tell me a non-absurd reason why Clausen shouldn't be suspended for fighting outside a bar a few hours after losing a game. He's the leader of the football team. And the football team, by the way, plays for a school that keeps trying to make everyone think it's some sort of Ivy League-caliber school. ND would be an Irish Catholic Baylor were it not for the historical prowess of the football team. The fact that Clausen is still playing tells me two things: 1. Weis thinks he has a shot at keeping his job if they win. 2. It's about wins and losses.
Oh, and JJIrish, are you kidding? ND, in your view, could go into the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game and beat whoever comes their way? Are we talking about the ND that couldn't beat Navy or UConn? THAT ND? Sure, they "could" beat a team that is legitimately in a national title game. To quote Wayne from Wayne's World, "and monkeys might fly outta my butt." All things are possible. But neither of those things would happen on the planet I inhabit. What color is the sky on your home planet, JJ?
SOT: Would you feel better if I told RobertG not to threaten you with RICO charges, force you into bankruptcy, and humiliate you?
RobertG: Please don't do that...
Now, let's get serious about this incident. There isn't a single person here that knows what exactly happened. I think the more digging you do, the more we know less.
Bottom line, barely anyone outside of a South Bend bar on a game night can tell you what exactly happened, and that's because most people are drunk.
Now do I think Clausen should be suspended because he shoved someone? No. But do I think the team faced some discipline this week in the form of say... 5:30 AM workouts? Probably.
But I'm not as interested as some columnists to turn this into a personal indictment against Jimmy Clausen. Remember back 10-20 years ago when we liked our athletes to stick up for themselves when drunk hecklers tried to start something?
This story is tired... Can't we start another ridiculous comment thread on a different post?
Robert T. Gilleran, aka robertg: I have three questions for you.
1. At what point did you decide to start pretending you were a famous Notre Dame law professor named G Robert Blakey instead of a guy named Robert T. Gilleran who admitted on uhnd.com that you have "no connection with notre dame except to admire her integrity?"
(See, e.g., http://www.uhnd.com/blog/notre-dame-recruiting/mike-floyd-commits-to-notre-dame/)
2. Why have you never bothered to correct the less-gifted individuals who, on this site, profess their foolish belief that you ARE in fact attorney and law professor G. Robert Blakey?
3. Will you blame "lazy Bob Davie" as your answer to either Question 1 or Question 2, as you blamed him for everything under the sun in your nonsensical rants on uhnd.com?
Thanks in advance for not bankrupting me until after the holidays. Really want to be able to buy a few copies of the new Call of Duty as gifts for friends. Fight on, Robert T. Gilleran!
No, Mr. Arnold. Your patronizing doesn't make me feel better. What WOULD make me feel better (aside from you harnessing the awesome time-warping power of Robert T. Gilleran to turn back time and erase the "paper record" that says Texas beat USC for the national title in January 2006) is if you hadn't threatened to shut this thread down just because someone looked at the inane blather Robert T. Gilleran has littered the internet with and invited us to do our own comparison.
Oh, and bak, that's hilarious about a program has integrity, to Robert T. Gilleran, if ND can beat them! So you noticed that, too, eh?
Robert T. Gilleran aka robertg:
Apologies, but I didn't get a chance to ask one important question:
What was the "irreparable injury" you suffered in January 1997? Was it a head injury, by any chance? And was that head injury at all related to the reason for you being disbarred by the Supreme Court of State of California in August 1997? And since you went to Yale Law School, did your head injury cause you to forget everything they taught you?
Well, shoot, that's three questions, not one. Sue me. Oh wait. The disbarred thing. You can't sue me. My bad. Get one of your associates to do it.
Robert T. Gilleran, I realize that you may be hopping up and down about my asking you FOUR questions, not three, in the above comment. While I DID merely attend USC and not Yale, you should recognize that I'm not counting "was it a head injury, by any chance" as a separate question. It's really just a refinement of the first question.
Ok, fire away with the numbered paragraphs that don't have anything to do with anything that actually happened anywhere in reality.
Mr. Arnold, how exactly is the Clausen-in-a-fight story "tired?" It broke on Monday night. The coach refused to discuss it and CANCELED ALL MEDIA ACCESS FOR PLAYERS AND COACHES. It has been ONE day since the story broke, and the coach sure is acting suspiciously like he doesn't want the media to find out anything because what they find out would be damaging.
It would be one thing if the coach and the player involved each gave a matter-of-fact summary. Something like "I was at this bar with my Mom, my Dad and my girlfriend. We left. She forgot her purse. We went back. We came out and some guy shoved her. I said to him 'hey, watch it' and he punched me in the eye. Nothing else happened. I'm going to play Saturday at Stanford."
But the story isn't tired. Now, you know that what gets you in trouble isn't the crime, it's the coverup. No crime has been alleged here by the media. But you also know that trying to tell the media (or mom's-basement-dwelling-bloggers like myself) that there's no story where there clearly is one is not a winning strategy.
What's the ridiculous comment thread you'd like us to light up? Something about whether Weis should be fired? THAT story is tired. He should. Now let's move on with discussing whether Clausen should have been invited to the O'Brien award just so we could see if his eye totally healed. Kidding!
Well, your wrong, eye witness accounts, little Jimmy shoved the guy in the neck and then got punched. So , if I did that, I would expect the worst wrath from coach Dough Boy. Being said, that is probably why he isnt throwing Jimmy under the bus in the media this week. Maybe outta respect and the fact he broke promises to Jimmy about ND and the possible Championships. Being with parents or not, just a bad scene. Walk away and be a better person, no matter the name calling. As usual with Domer fans, it's someone elses fault, the officials, the other team cheating, the NCAA or just a rabid fan, never a players fault or a coaches lack of preparedness.
No robertg for over 24 hrs. What the? Cover blown? Taking meds? Rational thouoght? Out of Gas? Filing suits? Changing blogs? The world wonders. Please come back, we need entertainment. We need our stimulus package. Pleeeeeeease!
BigMike4562, Here it is you are right I was wrong! I saw the full report after getting home last evening. I agree with you as well about being with you parents, if there is any time you should be able to walk away from a situation like that it is when you are with family. I wrote in a previous post that the students and athletes at Notre Dame need to stay above these type of incidents and I still believe that. I would have to say that your feelings about Jimmy Clausen being suspended for this game at Stanford is in line with good punishment guidelines. It is hard to say why Jimmy Clausen did what he did must he must now suffer the punishment, unfortunately he will not suffer it alone. What he did is going to affect the entire team and that is what is truly ashame. As for Charlie Weis not airing the dirty laundry in public I must say at this point I agree with his decision, there is enough negativity swirling around this program already!
Wow. How did I miss all these fireworks between robertg, SOT and Keith Arnold? Oh, right, I have a life. What kind of lawyer threatens to sue/bankrupt people because they have a differing opinion? robertg should know, with his keen legal acumen, that such a lawsuit would be seen as frivolous, vexatious and an abuse of process for which there would be serious implications for a true attorney. Dude needs to get real. He'd be laughed out of my Bar Assoc. Yale pedigree or not.
ndfan401,
No problem, I have been wrong in my life plenty of times, wanting to believe something to the end....at least we can admit it it....I was wrong in my bashing earlier in another post and retracted some staements myself....have a good Thanksgiving with family or friends and lets hope that Texas and Texas AM is a good game...boy I lost interest in NFL...
Art, what's this? When did you get a life? Was it before, or after you were able to quote Col. Kurtz at length? Was it during a commercial break from Curb? If you want me to be honest, I'm a little miffed that you got a life and didn't tell me. Good thing I didn't hire you to be my latex salesman. We'll see what Pennypacker has to say about this disturbing new development.
Robert T. Gilleran DID get laughed out of my bar association, since I'm also a California resident. But I'm sure they get a bigger laugh out of the gibberish he told me about bringing down the CA judiciary. It's all of a piece with his account of bringing the Catholic church to its knees. Ok, bad visual. But you know what I mean. :)
I had the same thought you did; I bet he has never filed any lawsuits as a plaintiff, but if he has, then he's filed 20, and he's probably been declared a vexatious litigant, since he probably tried to sue movie characters for doing things in their films he didn't agree with. "Sonny! Why did you go through the toll booth? Can't you see when you're being set up? And why'd you get out of the car? My research confirms that car doors provide better protection against bullets than suit jackets do! Neo! Why didn't you take the blue pill? Reality bites! Customs Agent Kujan! Why'd you let Verbal go? He's CLEARLY Keyser Soze! Who would hire that guy to pick coffee beans in Guatemala? You're all about to be relieved of your material possessions in very public jury trials in the civil courts!"
Happy Thanksgiving.
BigMike: Tough to take you serious when you say to not let name calling bother you, then you go drop a Dough Boy comment... And your name is BigMike.
Me thinks a begrudging level of respect is creeping into this blog between StephenOfTroy and the screaming hordes of fighting quasimodo's...another week of this and we will all be holding hands and singing kumbaya.
Seriously tho' I have thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth between SOT (a regular modern day Hector!) and Art Vandelay..both making excellent points in their rapier like comments.
Best of all is poor robertg... SOT disrobed him...opened up a 55 gallon drum of whoop-ass on his head and threw him in the gutter without a kiss goodnight.....Ouch!
Now I will have the perfect response to that pablum-puker when he spouts off on all the other blogs he regularly trolls on..constantly slandering Coach Carroll with his nonsense.
All I've got to say to robertg is...people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks. (know any good ex-lawyer jokes?)
I think I know how StephenOfTroy feels about Notre Dame..because I do too.
Even though I am a huge USC fan, I grew up listening and watching Lindsey Nelson call Notre Dame games in the early 70's. what a voice!
I have an immense amount of respect for the Notre Dame program..but they seem to do things differently today while claiming to hold on to the traditions of old.
I will be going to the Notre Dame Stanford game this Sat. I will be the one who is wearing the "StephenOfTroy" shirt...just in case robertg wants to send his "associates" out to subpoena me.
Kejji:
1) You will be hearing from my attorney (who is working pro bono as I am facing imminent bankruptcy) if in fact you wear a StephenOfTroy shirt to a game without paying me a royalty. Note: Game tickets constitute ample royalty. As would a half-eaten apple. I'm starving here. Who knew that bankruptcy could be so far-reaching?
2) Good points about ND. But I was disheartened to see you give credit to Art Vandelay. He gets all his information from H. E. Pennypacker, "wealthy industrialist, philanthropist, and bicyclist." You have to have watched Seinfeld religiously to follow that last one. But I know Art is chuckling to himself.
3) If you go to the Stanford game, and you catch Harbaugh's eye, give him a wave. Whether you choose to "go for two" fingers or just stick with one finger is up to you. What a class act he is, huh?
4) I TRIED to kiss Robert T. Gilleran goodnight. Petulant lad that he is, he turned his face away. So I just tucked him in really tight before looking under his bed to assure that there were no monsters or crooked conference-affiliated refs lurking under there.
Fight On!
Oh, and Kejji, my respect for many of the commenters here should be evident; I've told several of them as much in direct words. I respect everyone until they give me a reason not to. I really enjoy reading the opinions of people who either know a little about football or a lot about how to talk smack.
That's why I like Art. He makes up for not knowing jack about football by knowing even less about smack-talking. :)
Yes..the Stanford/Irish game,I am in somewhat of a conundrum over this...while my allegiance is to the men of Troy, I am also a big PAC-10 supporter, but when that banty-rooster Harbaugh pulled his two point play thing..well I hope he gets his hat handed to him.
Did you see his handshake with Jeff Tedford after the loss to Cal?
He ran out to midfield and literally ran by Tedford while sticking his hand out and barely touching hands.
Harbaugh truly is an asshat.
So I will be wearing a touch of green at the game.
hah really?
That’s nice to definitely find a website where the blogger knows what they are talking about.
Thanks for posting this. Would be intrested to read more or possibly please contact me by email thank you!
Thanks a lot for this awesome editorial.
Greetings to all, This website is excellent and so is how the subject was developped. I like some of the comments as well even if I would suggest we focus on the topic to add value to the subject. It will be also encouraging to the one who penned it down if we all could make mention of it (for many of us who use bookmarking services such as a delicious, facebook,..). Thanks again.
Thanks a lot for that extraordinarily awe inspiring column.
coffeetables are great for entertainment or card games. I presonally prefer leather coffetables but just plain wood will do just fine. I cant understand people who do not have coffeetable in the livingroom.
Hello there, awesome article, I thouroughly enjoyed reading this. This article gave me the momentum to try my own article, please see my post by clicking my name at the top of this post, Many thanks
Love the blog...people are missing out not using MLM and GDI more
How complete are public records that you get on the Internet? How do you really know if you are getting what you need.
Wow! what an idea ! What a concept ! Beautiful .,, Amazing …
To commercialise in conditions of high-performance rather than price, and in order to specialise accordingly, you want to observe the official format of the 4 Ps marketing plan. That is, Price, Product, Place and Promotion obviously you cognize the deep properties of the merchandise, and the price, but for place you should remember nearly the type of mass who are willing to give over 4x price of competing production whereas the second-class option may be sold where emphasis is on cost, your merchandise will be suited to places/distributors where the customers will be willing to pay for high-performance. Thank you for this article! I've just retrieved a surely surprising source about real marketing Seek it!
I use Mass-Follow.com to submit my Twitter to like 400 places
Thanks to you I dont seem like an idiot. I had an argument with my wife and this shows I was right. Thanks!
