1. charlie and his staff and notre dame’s student athletes who also played football for notre dame in 2009 were awarded the 2009 academic achievement award today by the american football coaches association.
2. combined with notre dame’s real record of 12-0 after our experts have made the adjustments for the dishonest officiating, these 2 achievements in the same season are a 1st for notre dame and for any school in the nation.
3. what have swarbrick and jenkins done? they got rid of charlie and his staff. they are driving away what would have been another no 1 recruiting class and neither swarbrick or jenkins has done anything to challenge to current corrupt officiating, rules enforcement, and rankings systems which have turned college football into the massive con operation that it is now.
4. swarbrick and jenkins have been turned down by every qualified coach in the us, although someone may step up just to take the cash and then retire after he and his family gets betrayed and fired by notre dame’s administration during the next cycle.
5. the qualified coaches know about college football and about dishonest officiating. they also know that what outstanding jobs charlie and his staff and notre dame’s student athletes who also play football have done and that none of them could even come close to doing nearly as well as charlie and his staff and that they cannot trust swarbrick and jenkins and notre dame’s administration.
6. the most qualified coaches in the us have already cast their votes and said no to swarbrick and jenkins, no matter how much money( money that belongs to other people) they are offerred.
7. today’s flavor of the day is jim harbaugh of stanford, who has brought a certain level off success to stanford football by using the services of dishonest officials, as he did against notre dame in 2007, 2008, and 2009(only 2009 produced a phony win on paper).
8. we all remember that brady quinn did not even get invited to new york for the heisman charade despite quinn’s stats.
9. well, without the knowledge of stanford’s board of trustees, harbaugh has signed stanford football up for a full membership in crooked college football enterprises and gerhard has been invited to new your for the heisman ceremony and the proprietors of crooked college football enterprises just might arrange for gerhard to win or, at least. place on saturday.
10. notre dame is currently ranked 20th on the annual list of america’s best colleges.
11. also in the top 25 are stanford in a tie for no.l 4, duke at no. 10,northwestern at no.12, vanderbilt at no 17, cal-berkeley at no. 21, georgetown at no. 23, and ucla and university of virginia tied at no. 25.
12. except for cal-berkeley, which has a 2 track academic system with a separate dumbed down version for football players, and georgetown, which does not play bcs division football, the other schools do not cheat their student athletes who also play football of real college educations.
13.only stanford has, through harbaugh, signed up as a full scale participant in crooked college sports enterprises.
14.if notre dame really wants to fulfill notre dame’s special missions in this world, notre dame will choose the ivy league option and not sign up with crooked college football enterprises.
15. for people like us who have gathered the evidence( which is still pouring in, along with lots of settlement money), the solution for notre dame is quite obvious.
16. for people who are still victims of the officiating and other scams being perpetrated by the proprietors of crooked colle football enterprises, there are suckers born every second and many of them choose to remain that way throughout their lives.
17. indiana joe. see a competent trial attorney, show the attorney your post and have the attorney explain to you what libel per se is and what the civil legal consequences are for your material assets of putting such a post on the internet.

The argument about talent at ND goes on and on. Here is a simple example of the talent compared to Alabama, who has had a fairly successful year. ND’s offensive line has one 5 star and four 4 star starters. All but one are seniors. Alabama (remember they have an above average running game!!!) has no 5 star, two 4 star, one 3 star and two 2 star starting linemen. Now I know this is a pretty small sample, but it is interesting.
The reason (according to IndianaJoe at least) is that these guys were not developed any further in fundamentals. Sam Young looked no better in his last game than he did in his first. When you have 260 pound guys blowing by and over 300+ pound guys, something is wrong.
Weis couldn’t motivate anyone other that Clausen and maybe some of the wide receivers. Weis just plain couldn’t relate to the players. He said something during his first year that went something like this: “I love all my starters”. That’s good if you are one of the top 22, but what about the other 80 or so players. They were lost in the noise.
Finally, Weis, in spite of his bragging to the contrary, couldn’t call plays to save his life. There was no variety, the number of plays were limited and he rarely would stick with the running game.
I like Tuberville because he likes the running game and strong defense. You’ve got to have a running game to keep the LB and secondary honest.
Got Lou Holtz back. I would like that too. Okay, I know it won’t happen, but I can still dream.

first of all, I’d like to say robertg is a douchebag!
I don’t think Meyer will come back to ND, at least not now. Yes I said back to ND. Some of you appear to forget he was an assistant coach at ND before.
I believe Kelly can turn this program around, some of you feel he was given wins at Cincy this year. Remember he has been successful every where he has coached. I also believe that Kelly has already been hired and that we could find out as early as Friday. Cincy has a team banquet tonight so I don’t believe it will be announced before he can address his team.

I would think if Urban is coming to South Bend that Swarbrick has been after him since last year. The main reason ND didn’t get Urban the first time is 3 reasons.
1. Florida fired Ron Zook after the Miss. State game and Florida started talking with Urban then. A full month before Ty was fired. They let Zook finish out the year. He went 21-15(same as Ty) and lost 5 games by less than a TD his last year.
2. Bernie Machen, the Univ. of Florida president, is the same man that hired Urban at Utah (pres. of Utah) and told the AD to go after Urban.
3. And, how do you tell your lady that she’ll be spending her winters in South Bend instead of Florida. Even Rockne spent his winters in Florida.

8. when swarbrick and jenkins continued to do nothing but to allow the media shill con artists to vilify charlie and his staff and their families and notre dame’s student athletes, swarbrick and jenkins gave the dishonest conference officials, notre dame’s enemies, and players on opposition teams carte blanche to cheat notre dame out of 6 wins and to intentionally injure notre dame student athletes with zero consequences.
9. whether it happens sooner or later after more humiliation and suffering for notre dame football and the university of notre dame, the only viable path for notre dame football is the ivy league and getting rid of swarbrick and jenkins and everyone else in the notre dame administration.
10. notre dame football should be run by notre dame alums who had great success as student athletes playing football at notre dame, in the nfl, and in their personal and business lives.
11. those of us who really love notre dame and know that notre dame has a unique mission in this world also know that swarbrick and jenkins have to go and that the future of notre dame football is in the ivy league, not in the sewers of crooked college football enterprises into which swarbrick and jenkins are pushing notre dame right now.

Art, I am fully aware that if it IS Meyer, you will be all but trying to steal HelenOfTroy away from me in the midst of my disgrace. I like for the stakes to be high. But really, aside from wishful thinking, what signs point to Urban Meyer either (a) being interested in the job, (b) being coveted by ND or (c) being in the mix?
It’s fun to read the tea leaves and it’s nice to have a wish list, but I don’t see how Meyer is at all in the hunt. I don’t claim to have special expertise or insight; I just follow the “news,” such as it is.
Whoever it is, I will be glad to see the new coach come in, and I’m hoping he puts together a staff and a team that does ND proud.

@SOT: it will be Meyer and I don’t think that is unrealistic, even at this stage of the process. I have to think that Jack Swarbrick was smart enough to have a plan in place BEFORE letting Weis go. To do otherwise would have been patent incompetence. The longer we go with no announcement the better, as that furthers my belief that someone has been hired who can’t yet be announced. You know that all these public proclamations by all these coaches are pure BS at this point so why don’t let the process play out without having to bring some cancer kid into the mix. If the new coach is Kelly or somebody else, I will gladly eat my words, but if it is Meyer, get ready for the big I told you so complete with Ace Ventura-like victory dance in your honor….can you feel it? Can you?

teo, I’m pretty sure the Irish could afford to pay Urban 15 percent more than he makes now. I’m certain he wouldn’t take it. You and Art need to find a kid who will pretend to be deathly ill so you can try to scam the Make-a-Wish people; maybe if you get the kid to tell Urban, through Make-a-Wish, that his last wish is that Urban will coach ND, he’ll consider it.
At the risk of being called “snide,” I have to side with mrrandolph, rob, and teo. Weis was overrated in everything from his supposed offensive genius status (See, e.g., running game, lack thereof) to his supposed recruiting brilliance (See, e.g., points made on this thread; See also, defensive talent, lack thereof) to his supposed class act status (See, e.g., wild accusations leveled against USC head coach). I disagree with Keith Arnold’s point of view, and I don’t think he has any real idea what “snide” means if he thinks I’ve locked it up. I suppose the people who take cracks at Weis’s weight or openly disparage Keith Arnold’s objectivity don’t count.
I can’t spend a lot of time worrying about hurting Keith Arnold’s feelings. I’m too busy watching for the moment when Notre Dame, which “is in mortal danger,” will “simply go down in economic flames in the civil courts” thanks to Robert T. Gilleran. Now THERE’s the man who has a lockdown on the word “snide.”

Everyone says, “it’s not about the money.” Whenever I hear that, I know it’s about the money. If Urban was given a fifteen percent raise to come to South Bend, he would do it in a heartbeat. We can’t do that, though. It’s too much, given the fact that we haven’t made much dough in the football program in awhile.

Teo, you are dead on about those recruiting services being a joke, that’s exactly what I was going to reply when I saw that you beat me to it.
Hey Lilirish, instead of bringing up pointless rankings of high school kids, which are impossible to rank against each other anyway, why don’t you look up the last ND O Lineman to go in the 1st round of the NFL draft. Bet it was a looooong time ago.
And the Ivy League… that’s laughable. What would that accomplish, other than totally trashing any connection to ND football’s glorious past. Give me a break. If they were going to join a conference, the Big 10 is the ONLY serious option. I’d like to see the Big 10 in 2 divisions, with Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Northwestern in the west, and Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, and Notre Dame in the east. Then have a championship game at season’s end. That would be big money.

Raise your hand if you’re old enough to think that Kelly isn’t going to be the head coach?
I’ve been around long enough to know that whenever any potential new Irish head coach is presented as a lock, that coach’s shot at being a head coach at the University of Notre Dame is over. Whether its O’Leary or Meyer or so many others, whenever someone seems like a lock, someone else comes into play.
That someone else, of course, could be the University of Kansas in this case. It could be the University of Cincinnati. Who knows? But, one thing is certain, the chance of Kelly becoming a head coach plummeted as soon as it became a foregone conclusion that he would be the head coach.

While I think you’re conveniently forgetting about 2 very good seasons to start with, I think you’re on point that the next coach needs to achieve.
Brian Kelly certainly has a great resume. We will see if he’s the next coach and whether or not he can do it on the biggest stage. I’ve got no reason to think that he can’t, and there’d be nothing I’d like to see more than ND go on a legit run, regardless of who the coach is.

You missed my point: “Kelly is a winner. He has managed to take his non-blue-chip recruits to an undefeated season and a top 5 ranking and BCS bowl. Coach Kelly’s challenge is to build a winner at Norte Dame. Coach Kelly’s biggest concern is providing LEADERSHIP to a football program that has had none over the last five years.”
I believe this is constructive comment about what needs to happen for the Norte Dame football program to get back on track. What has been missing in this blog, and I am beginning to sound like a broken record on this point, is REALITY. What the next Norte Dame football coach needs to do first and foremost to establish the LEADERSHIP that has been lacking. Get the best darn assistant coaches on the planet, recruit the best 20 high school players, run the spring practice like clockwork, all of this will not result in a winning program unless the new coach has the VISION and LEADERSHIP to make it work. The new coach has to turn around 20+ years of mediocrity (include the past 5 years where mediocrity is defended as almost good enough). Losing at Norte Dame has become a way of life.
The new Norte Dame football coach will have to change the culture of mediocrity and apologetic losing that has infected the Norte Dame football program. It is not a tweek here and tweek there that will fix it. It is a bold vision, patient hard work, and strong leadership that will take the Irish off life support. Charie Weis was a top recruiter based on the rankings of his recruiting classes. It is a fair statement.
Both Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis couldn’t win at Notre Dame, but what got Ty booted early (and what kept Charlie around in the hope he would finally get better) was the state of recruiting.
I think Ty’s last recruit class was somewhere in the 40′s. Charlie this year was headed for another top 20 class.
STF
