It's official: Te'o is staying

Dec 26, 2009, 6:09 PM EDT

Crisis averted for Brian Kelly. In what could be considered his largest recruiting victory as a head football coach, Brian Kelly managed to keep prized linebacker Manti Te’o at Notre Dame.

According to reports by both the South Bend Tribune and the Chicago Tribune, Te’o will return to South Bend instead of taking his Mormon mission, and is committed to playing the next three years for the Irish.

“It is official, Manti announced he will not be withdrawing from school next semester but will return to ND to complete his first year of studies,” Te’o's father Brian told the South Bend Tribune. “He will be playing for the Irish next season.”

Brian Te’o also confirmed via text message with the Chicago Tribune that he’ll spend four years in South Bend.

“He knows why he was inspired to choose ND and is committed to spending the next three years there,” the elder Te’o wrote.

This is great news for both Notre Dame fans and the beleaguered Irish defense, as Te’o will be a mainstay in Brian Kelly 3-4 defense, likely teaming with Brian Smith in the middle of the Irish defense.

The fact that Te’o father also confirmed that a mission is off the table for the duration of his college career must be a relief to the new coaching staff, and will allow Manti to get settled in for the long haul and continue developing at linebacker.

Good job by BK and whatever staff he has working with him.

    GO IRISH!!!

No worries man, actually I liked being corrected this time. SOT, as far as Keith deleting your post this time, no worries for you either. Maybe someone else will tell you why. Let me just say, once again your ego made you look silly.

  3. TLNDMA - Jan 4, 2010 at 4:46 PM

Or maybe it’s, “your ego ‘makes’ you look silly”. Oh well, you’d know better than I’d(me)know.

  4. irishfanintx - Jan 4, 2010 at 7:09 PM

    Welcome back, SOT. Welcome back.

    Robertg:
Man I’m so sorry we haven’t given you sufficient input or stimulus to peak your interest. Perhaps our posts were intercepted and removed by the vicious shills, con artists and corrupt officials.
Really I’m sure all of us support your efforts to cut these cancers from college football.
By the way the Tooth Fairy says Hi.

Shortest post I’ve seen? Took a walk by the lithium lick?

  7. Sgt.Moon - Jan 4, 2010 at 10:12 PM

SOT, I didn’t think I would have to apologize for the dictionary under the pillow remark. I sleep with a VHS tape of Notre Dame’s last National Championship game under my pillow. And it’s OLD.
But we have more important things to discuss here. Oprah cancelled her show, and Rosie O’Donnell has a new girlfriend.
What is this world coming to??

  8. Art Vandelay - Jan 4, 2010 at 10:31 PM

I made a New Year’s resolution to make more productive use of my time until football season starts. See you all in Sept.

I agree…what would Notre Dame Central be without your swinging of the pendulum back to the middle.
Fight On! PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT!

Art, I hope you change your mind…your posts are interesting and thought provoking, Don’t make us wait until Sept.

Off subject–I am a die hard college football fan so I have to ask, is my love of college football fading or has this been a luckluster bowl year?

  12. DocHR - Jan 5, 2010 at 12:08 AM

Your post proved my point in spectacular fashion; You are in love with yourself, you believe that you are smarter than anyone else, and you blog only to make yourself feel better by insulting everyone. If anyone should get over themselves, it’s you. I’m here for the football, you’re here for something entirely different, and as I said, only a psychiatrist can figure it out (not me). But you didn’t read that part very carefully, as you also didn’t when I made a reference to the possibility that the blog may be less-read because the season is over, among the other possible reasons. If you read other people’s post more carefully, you wouldn’t respond so incorrectly. In fact, maybe you wouldn’t be able to respond at all.
Of course I won’t quit my day job; this is supposed to be fun. It is you that seems to take this all too seriously, picking out comments that people post so that you can write your little insults and witticisms.
BTW- Comic Book Guy had a girlfriend for an episode, and your flattery at being considered as Comic Book Guy should be brought up early in your first therapy session.
Yikes! Now I’ve lowered myself to your level by resorting to insults. I tried in post #65 to bring the discussion back to football, but the forces of darkness…too strong…must resist…won’t blog until spring game….

I tend to agree, especially after last nights snooze-a-rama between TCU and Boise State. I thought we’d see a really good game, instead we got a bunch of fumbles, blown plays and quirky defences.
I suppose we could chalk it up to jitters and nerves having center stage on Monday night.
I really think they are better than shown last night but they really blew an opportunity to show us they belong with the elite programs.

  14. TLNDMA - Jan 5, 2010 at 8:50 AM

DocHR, I hope that you found it amusing that SOT was incorrect when he tried to correct my grammar. You really have to remember how pompous and arrogant the man is. Can’t you picture him having a mirror next to his keyboard as he posts.
Give him credit though, he is very good at twisting someones words to fit his point of view and arguments. I guess everyone’s good at something.

  15. Keith Arnold - Jan 5, 2010 at 2:17 PM

    Play nice, kids.
And for those of you that vow to quit blogging, I hope that means you don’t quit reading!

  16. JRC - Jan 5, 2010 at 2:47 PM

Well for one thing Notre Dame Central would be better off if he left his arrogance at the door and stopped demeaning people.
BTW: Vos Veho Suus Unda Puteus

  17. kejji - Jan 5, 2010 at 7:46 PM

I assume you meant that as a slight, but I will wear your statement as a badge of honor.. but I don’t think StephenOfTroy needs me to prop him up, he does quite well on his own.

    1. there is some new information.
    2. kelly is filling his staff with people who did great things at gvsu, central michigan, and cincinnati, not one of whom has the slightest idea what notre dame is about, not one of whom has had any success at all at the notre dame level, and not one of whom, including kelly, can recruit or hold on to recruits.
    3. the video and audio of notre dame’s only 5 star 2010 verbal, de chris martin, confirming that he cried when charlie was fired, immediately decommited from notre dame, and chose cal where he knew that there would be coaching stability, can be found at rivals.com.
4 some of these people, like kelly, actually did div 2 national championships at gvsu before jumping ship to central michigan and then, in some cases, to cincinnati.
    5. other key notre dame verbals continue to look elsewhere with the exception of some who had already cut off their ties to their other school options.
    5. chris martin did not mince any words. for the next 4 years, his coaches are going to be his parents.
    6. he loved and trusted charlie and his staff, but trusted no one at notre dame after charlie and his staff were fired.
    7. the same process continues with notre dame’s other 2010 verbals and with 2011 targets who had previously had very high interests in notre dame.
    8. the one new verbal with any real talent, dt nix, verbally committed to notre dame the day after charlie and his staff were fired.
    9. nix is a fine athlete, but is severely lacking on the student side. the student part of the equation was eliminated after charlie and his staff were fired.
    10. according to that infamous south bend media shill( you can check out hansen’s articles online at the south bend tribune)neither kelly nor his staff have any clue about recruiting for nd.
11.it was hansen, of course, who, with his colleagues at the south bend tribune wrote all of those vicious articles about charlie and his staff and their families, only to be really horrified by charlie’successor, kelly
    12. since things are very dull right now nd central, we will provide a challenge and a prize to anyone who can come up with any credible positive spin for notre dame football based on these cold hard facts.
    13. now, we have to get back to our serious work.
    14. good luck with our challenge.
    GO IRISH!!!

  21. Jake - Jan 6, 2010 at 8:21 AM

    A prize!!!!
Is that like “A Major Award”? Will it come in a crate labeled “Fragile”.
    If so I’m in!

  22. robertg - Jan 6, 2010 at 8:32 AM

    1. keith and his staff have not deleted any posts or banned anyone. remember, notre dame central is a public forum.
    2. when real notre dame fans see some cancers within notre dame firing charlie and his staff and bringing in some real con artists who can do nothing but hurt notre dame, then it is their obligation to step up and protect notre dame.
    3. that is exactly what we are doing in the civil courts.
    4. for those who prefer internet mudslinging contests and sitting back while purcell and swarbrick and jenkins and kelly and his staff do more damage to notre dame, enjoy yourselves.
    5. outside of real civil court trials, the evidence and the facts mean nothing.
    6. we will continue looking in, from time to time, and printing out new posts in our very limited spare time.
    7. our friends at the los angeles times continue to do fine jobs covering sot’s usc heroes.
    8. they bring out the cold hard facts with some excellent investigative journalism and with some fine prose.
    9. however, they cannot follow up in the civil courts. we do that for them and we always appreciate their information.
    10. t. j. simers and the other la times reporters do not have any prejudice against usc.
    11. they simply report the facts, along with some great photos.
    GO IRISH!!

  25. Jake - Jan 6, 2010 at 12:43 PM

Man I’m definitely in. The BB gun is O.K. but it has to have a compass in the stock
