Crist, Rudolph set to play in Blue-Gold Game

WNDU’s Jeff Jeffers is reporting that Dayne Crist will play in Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game.

From WNDU:

Irish quarterback Dayne Crist will play in Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly told NewsCenter 16 Sports Director Jeff Jeffers in a 1-on-1 interview Tuesday afternoon.

Crist will continue to be ‘protected’ during the game---as he has been throughout spring practice. Crist had knee surgery in November to repair a torn ACL suffered in the Washington State game last Halloween.

He was not expected to be able to play in the spring game, but has progressed well enough according to Kelly.

In fact, every Irish player will be available for Saturday’s game, the first since Kelly took over as head coach. That includes tight end Kyle Rudolph who has been recovering from shoulder surgery.

Not entirely surprisingly as we’ve seen both in practice, but certainly good news for Irish fans eager to get a look at the Notre Dame offense in full, led by Crist behind center. It’s also encouraging that Kyle Rudolph will see action, as he’ll be a focal point of the offense, and it’ll give us our first hints as to what Kelly and offensive coordinator Charley Molnar have in store for the tight end position, especially with a weapon like Kyle.
