Irish recruiting picks up pair of aces with Atkinson brothers

Sep 12, 2010, 5:34 PM EDT

For Irish fans still feeling the after-effects of the 28-24 loss to Michigan, Notre Dame did win two important battles this weekend, picking up recruiting commitments from high-profile prospects George and Josh Atkinson this weekend.

Multiple websites are reporting that the twin brothers gave their pledge to head coach Brian Kelly this weekend during their official recruiting visit. George is an explosive offensive player with an offer list that includes most of the nation’s best schools. Josh is a six-foot tall cornerback with offers not quite as prestigious, but most of the Pac-10. Their father George Atkinson spent over a decade in the NFL as a safety.

The Irish now have 18 verbal commitments to their 2011 recruiting class, a group that likely will expand a few more spots with the recent transfer of Derek Roback and Shaq Evans.

Great news, Needed a pick me up and this will do just fine! GO IRISH!!! BEAT SPARTAN!!! By the way does anyone think these re CAPTCHA anti spam things get a bit ridiculous at times? My goodness I feel taxed at times after figuring those darn things out

2 good athletes at positions of need. Many “experts” tag George A. with the potential to be special. Both can run real fast. Class is filling out nicely. Need a couple more studs for the defense.

I still say at least 8-4, with luck 9-3, pass the Kool-Aid 10-2. They played hard the whole game, but Robinson is just too much. If you can’t catch him you can’t tackle him.
Crist’s last pass was absurd – into the Michigan Band.
But they are learning – they fought hard up till the last second, they didn’t run out of gas like last year – they got beaten by a better team.
Can they beat Moo U on the road? Of course they can.
Now one more elite recruit and one more darn good recruit.
They HAVE to beat Southern Cal, and I believe that by November they will have the confidence and will be battle-tested and WILL beat Southern Cal.
And THEN we can ALL “wake up the echoes”

Hope we get Lyons, Tuitt, French and defensive end Anthony LaLota who just decommited from Michigan which would make a very good 2011 recruiting class. Does anyone know where Anthony is looking at.

It’s something about ND campus on gameday. The recruits come and they love it. Now let’s wait and see if they still love it on national signing day.

Fans like you scare me. Why are you even counting 8-4, 9-3, 500-1? The focus should be on MSU and nothing else.
6-6 seasons from a 4th year coach (can we even call him that) is beyond disappointing, but it was pretty clear by the 3rd year that he couldn’t coach (we had some studs in offense the first 2). Brian Kelly is a good coach, the team played pretty well (given the fact that we didn’t have a qb after the first drive). One thing I would like to see less of is his face in front of the press/camera. Talking doesn’t do anything (if we learned antyhing from Charlie), he should let his coaching do it for him.
