…but the play should have never happened.

Both the playclock on the TV feed and the scoreboard were clearly at zero before the ball was snapped.

Either way, it’s the playcall of the year by Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio.

i absolutely hate to be negative with ND…but after this game i dont really care. until the show that they can put a team away, they’re just gonna be a mediocre football team. last weeks loss was unfortunate, but theres no reason that game shouldve even been in ot. and until they show they can kick the crap out of a team that they are clearly more talented then…its just gonna be 6-6 and 7-5 every year.

  2. vegasmark - Sep 19, 2010 at 12:31 AM

    this one hurt, KA….

  3. Mediocrity ensues - Sep 19, 2010 at 12:42 AM

This is what I have been saying on the game blog…blog. I said it twice; the play should have never happened. Meh…the Irish probably would have lost anyway.

  4. Mo - Sep 19, 2010 at 12:46 AM

That’s the official game clock. In fact, you can see the score board still has time on it.

  5. Mediocrity ensues - Sep 19, 2010 at 12:50 AM

No it doesn’t. Look at the picture. See the two clocks on the right and left side of the scoreboard? The clocks with double zeros on them? Those are play clocks. They even have two so everybody can see them.

Did you notice how quick abc got off the air and never said one word about it? No to mention they had a tackle running over two of our guys ten yards down the field. Needless to say ND has a a lot of work ahead of them. Drop balls , missed tackles just all around lackadaisical performance.

  7. Jack Mulligan - Sep 19, 2010 at 1:11 AM

the anti-irish media has not even acknowledged this blatant error…

  8. calebw - Sep 19, 2010 at 2:26 AM

Yeah. That’s why they lost. Right

  9. brendan_g - Sep 19, 2010 at 9:07 AM

what conference were the refs from?

  10. SpankMonkey - Sep 19, 2010 at 9:33 AM

    I figured someone would whine
    Real good, nice job
It over, you need to get over it
Should just get over it and prepare for the next game
    Have to suck it up
Should you dwell on the past
U wont be ready for the future
Cause the next game could bring 1-3
Kan’t imagine it but its true

  11. sparty84 - Sep 19, 2010 at 10:02 AM

From what I’ve read,it was a Big East conference officiating crew. The official play clock (not the ESPN one on the bottom of the screen nor the one one the scoreboard) is kept/ watched on the field by a designated person.

  13. Big Bob - Sep 19, 2010 at 10:11 AM

whether its happening against notre dame or whoever a penalty is a penalty, it would have made it a 51 yard field goal, MSU GOT LUCKY BIG TIME, NOTRE DAME GOT SCREWED!

  14. ron - Sep 19, 2010 at 12:21 PM

I agree no excuses I said at the beginning 6-6…Brian Kelly welcome to real college football!!!!!!

  15. denis Bouchard - Sep 19, 2010 at 1:33 PM

calling that play would have given me a heart attack as well !

  16. Gordon - Sep 19, 2010 at 1:38 PM

What the screenshot doesn’t show is that the center is already hiking the ball. Check out the actual video and you will see that the ESPN clock goes to 00 before the scoreboard clock, and the center starts hiking when the scoreboard is still at 01. No conspiracy here. Just lack of preparation by the Irish.

  17. #1irishfan - Sep 19, 2010 at 2:32 PM

We shouldn’t blame the refs for a loss but it would have been a little different if they would have done the RIGHT thing in-which BIG CHEAT crews never seem to do (Call a game fair) Thats all we ask CALL THE Fnnnnngggggg game fair!!!! I would just like to see one full game where Big CHEAT crews have called 1 full game fairly……NEVER HAS HAPPENED!! We do need to make a change, ND needs to demand a neutral officiating crew for all games played against a BIG CHEAT opponent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. hate nd - Sep 19, 2010 at 2:33 PM

haha, what a bunch of whiners.
msu and nd, the only wat they win is officiating, not the team.

  19. D IRISH SUCK - Sep 19, 2010 at 4:16 PM

I thought this play was the greatest case of having stones and dashing the hopes of ND EVER !
Notre Dame plays NOONE ! If they are lucky enough to beat their soft schedule to the tune of 8 wins ,they get the BCS bid !
If ND played southern fried football they would be lucky to get a win !
I think it’s fitting for NBC , No There Dumb, and the crying Catholics everywhere today !

  20. Management - Sep 19, 2010 at 5:02 PM

    Hey “Suck”,
Take your 2nd grade, trailer park education, and get a life. Your comments and “origniality” are epic! What exactly is southern fried football? Football played with a bucket of KFC? or maybe it’s Popeye’s… Do us all a favor, and stick to your “southern fried football” blogs, and spare us “crying Catholics” from your idiocy.
    Sincerely,
    Management

  23. Stephen Louis Hicks - Sep 19, 2010 at 6:55 PM

The play should have happened as it was a correct call per the Big East Conference. The Big East supplied the referees and have thoroughly reviewed the call and support the no call. MSU wins against ND…again…

  24. #1irishfan - Sep 19, 2010 at 7:23 PM

Correction….I was wrong….Sorry for the mistake it was big east officiating!!

  25. ND football fan - Sep 19, 2010 at 8:14 PM

It was a big ten crew. The Big East is just the one who came out and said that it was the correct call.
