Notre Dame - Stanford extend series through 2019

In a rivalry that’s intensified over the past few years, Notre Dame and Stanford have agreed to continue their football series through the 2019 season. Following the 2011 season, the Irish and Cardinal will trade off home games for eight more years.

“We are very excited to be extending our football series with the University of Notre Dame,” said Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby. “We have enjoyed a long history of great competition and we are pleased to continue the spirited rivalry between our two universities.”

The now annual game versus Stanford had some question marks surrounding it in the last few off-seasons, as conference realignment, the Irish’s 7-4-1 scheduling paradigm, and other factors seemed to put the continuation of this series into question. But with the Irish unofficially shifting to a five-game road schedule, not to mention Stanford raising their national profile, the game seems like a perfect season finale for Thanksgiving weekend during the seasons that the Irish play USC at home.

Notre Dame holds a 17-8 series lead, with the two teams meeting every season for the last 14 years. The Irish and the Cardinal will square off on November 26 at Stanford Stadium in a primetime match-up.
