In a statement released jointly through the Naval Academy’s athletic department, Notre Dame and Navy have agreed to extend their rivalry until 2026, the 100th year of the series.
“Our institutional relationship with Notre Dame goes back decades,” said Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk. “Along with the vast mutual respect we share as two of the finest educational institutions in the nation, that same dimension of appreciation is evident on the football field. Continuing this traditional and classic rivalry for years to come has always been a priority for both schools. I am grateful to Jack and his staff for working with us to ensure the continuation of this annual highlight enjoyed by millions of fans during each college football season.”
“Notre Dame and Navy have long defined what an intersectional football rivalry is all about,” Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said. “Our two institutions have a longstanding relationship, both on and off the football field, that goes back decades. When we’ve looked at future football schedules for Notre Dame, Navy has always been one of the opponents immediately penciled in - and this ensures that will be the case for yet another 10 years to come.”
The 84th meeting between Notre Dame and Navy will take place October 29th at Notre Dame Stadium. After a record-setting winning streak of 43 years ended in 2007, the Midshipmen have gone on to beat the Irish three of the last four years, including a 35-17 route over the Irish last season in the Meadowlands.
The Notre Dame-Navy series is the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in college football.
