Live blog — Notre Dame vs. Boston College

Nov 10, 2012, 7:50 PM EDT

Manti Te'o, Stephon Tuitt

The first shock-wave just reverberated across college football. Alabama, long thought the most impervious to upset, just had its undefeated season ended at the hands of a precocious young quarterback known as Johnny Football. With the nation’s top team off the grid, the Irish have an opportunity to make a few waves this evening as well, with only 2-7 Boston College standing in their way.

As always, we’ve got the live blog here for your entertainment. Can the Irish, nearly three touchdown favorites, play like a national title contender? Will Everett Golson continue his solid play away from Notre Dame Stadium? Will the Irish defense harass Chase Rettig as the Boston College quarterback tries to keep the Eagles in the game through the air?

It’s already been a crazy day of college football, with undefeated Louisville getting undressed by Syracuse. With Kansas State, Oregon and the Irish all playing this evening, will there be any more surprises across the college football landscape?

Let’s discuss.

ND, do the work – crush !

  2. irishdrg1 - Nov 10, 2012 at 8:13 PM

Its already started one of the announcers suggest that Bama should on drop to #2 or #3, what an idiot, guess with little bama schedule of Western Kentucky or Western Carolina maybe their power SOS will keep them in the top 2 LMAO

    • twoody50 - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:44 PM

And Pitt, Boston College and Wake Forest are power houses?

      • ibleedirish - Nov 11, 2012 at 9:17 AM

nope not powerhouses. But not FCS teams either, Notre Dame doesn’t play D2 schools, and never has.

  3. megatronspartan - Nov 10, 2012 at 8:19 PM

Let’s see if ND seizes the moment or follows Bama’s lead! Bama will still get in some how some way….. Unfortunately

  4. papadec - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:01 PM

They’re playing loudmouth Romanowski and “his fist” again on TV. Irish up 7-3. Romanowski can go shove his fist…………….

  5. megatronspartan - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:06 PM

FUMBLE!!!!! Flashbacks from last week game, hopefully the refs don’t give ND the game…. Like last week

    • 1notredamefan - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:14 PM

Your cute…. but jealousy and envy run hand in hand with being a child…. we understand over here were we talk best on the field…

  6. 1notredamefan - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:15 PM

I am positive after watching last week and now this that we are coasting… we are clearly the better team in both of these games but our eyes are on USC already and feel like we can just wiggle for these 3 games… Not that I agree

  7. megatronspartan - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:24 PM

Well even with ND in coast mode focusing on USC they would have play at a pop Warner level to lose against BCU. But it will be a different story out in the coliseum!!

  8. megatronspartan - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:33 PM

BCU defense couldn’t get off the field on third down if there life depended on it!!

    • irishdrg1 - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:47 PM

ust it wil be a SC TROLL, you must really love the Irish more than poor little Sparty, your season is crushed, you can’t even win in the Little 10

    • 9irish - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:47 PM

What the hell is BCU? Boston College University??? Do your research even before you make a statement lacking any credibility.

  9. 1notredamefan - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:45 PM

This Palmer guy at the half, POOR Bama BOO HOO HOO comin off an emotional win and they lose today… that’s where we were last week and everyone says it was us just not being a top 3 team! What a JOKE!!!! I have grown to hate ESPN just as much as USC, Michigan etc.! They are a bias news organization that could make that FOX news channel blush

    • twoody50 - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:50 PM

ND is not a top 3 team, so whats your point?

    • irishbornraised - Nov 10, 2012 at 9:57 PM

Picture this, here I am just trying to enjoy some music as I relax and enjoy halftime while meanwhile some *Hole drags me into a political discussion when he’s never actually watched FOX and just gobbles up everything told to him by the news organizations he deems fair. Just forget the fact that all objective studies find far more notable omissions by the left.

  10. megatronspartan - Nov 10, 2012 at 10:16 PM

Not a fan of ND but they are good team for the first time in about a decade…. It’s good for college football

  11. sinister23 - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:19 PM

    K State
Those are all teams that are better than the Irish….I feel if they played U of M again, we would win.

    • papadec - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:57 PM

sin – keep dreamin’ troll – keep dreamin’.

      • 9irish - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:12 AM

Happy 237th, Papadec…a few minutes late. Semper Fi

  12. eurocougar - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:19 PM

Having a tough time listening to Mussburger et al homerizing about how they cannot imagine how ND could possibly be left out of the BCS championship game. I’ll tell you how it’s possible: because ND is really not that good. How else do you explain a team that is struggling to beat weaker opponents? Today’s game vs. Boston College is a case in point. If that, as Brian Kelly claims, is the #2 team in the country, maybe he thinks the country is the state of Indiana. Get real, Irish fans.

    • papadec - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:59 PM

euro – 10-0 is real enough for me! Maybe you’re the one that needs to get real?

  13. badgerbuck - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:26 PM

Brad Edwards said that notre dame has little if no chance to make national championship game. He has them playing Nebraska in the rose bowl. I think it will be Wisconsin and the Irish in the rose. Wisconsin would give them one hell of a game no more then a three point win by either team toss up game

    • papadec - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:01 AM

badger – Brad Edwards – another espn proclaimed expert!

      • 9irish - Nov 11, 2012 at 9:26 AM

That guy is annoying….and overused by ESPN.

  14. 9irish - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:43 PM

Notre Dame is doing very well…I can tell because all of the haters are falling out of the woodwork

  15. kiopta1 - Nov 10, 2012 at 11:59 PM

Dang fumbles are gonna hurt us eventually.

  16. ndgoldandblue - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:01 AM

All right. Quite a few folks on here (not just sinister) were unimpressed with the Irish victory tonight. To be honest, I was too. But I’ve got a theory that just might make sense. Let’s play a little word association. In 2012, Notre Dame is to college football as Spain is to soccer.

As a follower of all sports, soccer included, I have never seen a less impressive, yet dominating team in all of sports than the Spanish national soccer team. They play the most boring brand of soccer in the world. They sit there and tap the ball back and forth to each other, maintaining possession, all while waiting for the opposition to make a mistake. Then, they score. Oftentimes, scores of their games against much weaker opponents, like Angola, are 1-0. Supporters of their opponents are left thinking, “They’re not that good. We still lost to them, but they’re not that good.”

That’s the Irish this year. With the exception of the Miami and Navy games, we don’t blow anyone out. The Oklahoma game didn’t turn into a rout until the last minute or two. And everyone appears to say the same thing. If it’s an opponent that we just beat, it’s “They’re not that good. We could have won.” Or, if it’s an upcoming opponent, it’s “They’re not that good. We should beat them.”

After a 21-6 win over a pretty bad Boston College team, everyone is saying, “Notre Dame is not very good. No one is intimidated to play them.” Their offense is average and their defense can be exposed. Then, we play the same teams whose supporters say that, and we win. Ugly or not, we still win. We’re Spain. We play boring, time-of-possession football, and we don’t score many points. But we still win. You may be left wondering afterward how that happened, but it still happened. That said, I’d love to see us beat the living tar out of Wake next week.

    • papadec - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:09 AM

ndgold – 21-6. Could have been, should have been, more like 28 or 35 to 6. But, the fact still remains that the defense ONLY GAVE UP 6. No TDs – again! I’m not happy about the turnovers, but ND overcame those turnovers & WON! I like your comparison to the Spanish Soccer team.

  17. papadec - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:30 AM

9irish – on behalf of ALL who served before me, with me, and after me – Thank you. Beating BC, was all I wanted for this birthday. Let’s not forget to Thank ALL vets & active duty personnel – tomorrow.

  18. paredskinwarrior1985 - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:33 AM

Oregon will end up losing obey of the last games maybe 2 if ucla can stop them!!! ND wins out and ends up #1 and destroys kstate in the national championship and shuts all the haters up!! mark my words EG will end up winning a heisman in the next 2 years his game will be like a slower RG3!!!

  19. cpfirish - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:43 AM

I don’t care what everyone else is saying about ND! We are 10-0! All the haters can keep on talking. Just cause we don’t have to put up 60 points to win everyone think that we are overrated and we don’t play anybody. Whatever. Our defense would never give up that many points so we don’t have to score that many to win! I love the Irish, 10-0 since 1993. And only the 8th time in history that we win our first ten games of the season. And I think we are 18-3 out of the last 21 games?? Someone may need to help me on that on though. Go Irish! Beat Wake!

  20. dermmite - Nov 11, 2012 at 12:43 AM

We take care of business. Fuck all the haters. WE ARE ND! And when I say” WE ARE ND” that means everybody. Fuck everybody else.

    • papadec - Nov 11, 2012 at 1:03 AM

derm – a bit over the top – but, I love your enthusiasm.

  21. norcalirish - Nov 11, 2012 at 1:50 AM

ROFL @ the random people coming on the board and hating. 9irish, totally right. NDgoldandblue well said! I just hope our economy doesn’t become like Spain’s lol

Oregon looked like garbage for 3 quarters tonight, k state was solid but unimpressive, and alabama got rolled for the second week in a row. This is getting fun.

  22. papadec - Nov 11, 2012 at 2:34 AM

norcal – in my opinion, the ND win w/o giving up a TD & only 6 points is more impressive than the KSt win giving up 10 points with a TD. Hopefully the human voters & computers will agree.

  23. flandersst1 - Nov 12, 2012 at 8:31 AM

    Hey Keith,

Great article as always! It seems that the best way to increase viewership and mouseclicks here at the Inside the Irish blog was for Notre Dame to become awesome again. Look at all these fools show up just to complain. there was a time when there was only about 5 of us.

By the way has StephenofTroy ever returned after we beat USC in the coliseum two years ago?

    Steve in Pittsburgh
