Gerry Faust. Such a good man, but it is a testament to why nobody should ever take over Notre Dame as their first (college) head coaching job. I was pretty young then, but they had so much talent on those teams.

Also ironic that the team that almost spoiled Alabama’s hopes was Texas A&M. A program that Bear Bryant built from nothing.

It is fascinating. I had forgotten(if I ever knew) what an excellent, grown-up man was Paul Bryant.
The Tide’s base of fans, taking one fan with another, is sketchy like every other team’s(except ND’s of course!), but the University of Alabama football program and the people who built it have been the class and character of the SEC ever since the Bear came to Tuscaloosa in the late ’50s.
Just another reason why we couldn’t ask for a better match-up on January 7!
Although I don’t think Nick Saban will be sending Father Hez any autographed memorabilia after the Tide gets rolled in South Beach….

I’m glad that Moore has history with Notre Dame and an appreciation. It will mitigate the pain of their defeat.
