Notre Dame just added another New Jersey product to the roster, with projected cornerback Rashad Kinlaw’s fax making his commitment official. Let’s dig deeper into one of the Irish’s most intriguing developmental projects.
Galloway, New Jersey
Measureables: 6-foot-1, 185-pounds
Accolades: Team USA U-19 team, three-star recruit. Started at quarterback his junior season. Intercepted six passes in 32 snaps as a sophomore. NJVarsity.com’s No. 14 player in state.
Impressive Offers: Boston College, Iowa, Nebraska, N.C. State, Penn State
Projected Position: Cornerback
Quick Take: The ultimate wild card in the recruiting class. Kinlaw lost half of his junior season to a broken leg, only to rebreak the same one while playing over the summer for Team USA. He returned in late October from the injury, but missed the majority of his final two seasons of high school football.
Kinlaw’s offer was based on his quarterback tape and he projects as a cornerback. No question, he was the best athlete on his team. Staff is hoping to take his tremendous physical traits and capitalize on the fact he hasn’t developed any bad habits yet. Reminds some staffers of KeiVarae Russell.
What it means for Irish roster: Like Devin Butler, he’s a great profile fit at cornerback. He’s a prospect that might take a lot of time, but could also be an early surprise. Health obviously is a big factor for Kinlaw, with the second injury most serious than the first. That said, his skills and physical speed almost hold legendary status, with talk of a 4.3 forty yard dash. At his size, speed even close to that would be elite at cornerback.
Obligatory YouTube highlight film: These are highlights from Kinlaw’s junior season, where he’s mostly dominating as a high school quarterback.
