Season-ending knee injury to Springmann thins D-Line

Aug 22, 2013, 1:53 PM EDT

Tony Springmann

Brian Kelly officially confirmed the news of a serious knee injury to defensive lineman Tony Springmann, ending the season for the junior before it started. Last year Springmann was a valuable reserve up front and looked to play an even bigger role as the first defensive lineman off the bench.

Without Springmann, it looks like junior Ishaq Williams will spend more time with his hand on the ground, a transition that feels natural for the former five-star recruit. But with Chase Hounshell already lost for the season with a shoulder injury, Kelly also conceded that freshman Isaac Rochelle will see time immediately, with fifth year senior Tyler Stockton also likely getting his shot to fill the void.

Kelly described Springmann’s injury as a dislocation with severe ligament damage. Rumors had spread that the injury was an ACL tear, but Kelly called it a bit more rare, but felt confident that Springmann will make a complete recovery.

If this offseason were a tangible thing, I would strangle it, tie a brimstone to its neck and send it down the ocean, incinerate it, then incinerate its ashes, then send those ashes to the heart of a supernova, then send it forward in time to the destruction of the universe. ONLY NINE MORE DAYS.

Perhaps a bit overdramatic, but yes we do seem to have had more than our share of bad news stories involving current and prospective players over these past months.

Dickasman would suggest it also be ass-raped by a big-donged tranny. He might be right in this case.

A hearty ‘THUMBS UP!!’ to each of your fine suggestions.

On the bright side, Rochell, Schwenke, Stockton, and Williams have surprised. The line is still reasonably-ish deep.

Louis Nix continues to be the most important player on this team. We NEED him to stay healthy this season. The 3-4 defense demands a big nose tackle and he’s the only one we got.

    Vanderdoes, where art thou?

He’s in SoCal nursing a bad back with very limited camp participation. He would be no help in this situation. Move on.

My college coach told me that a football player can only injure his back during the act of kinky sex. It is impossible to injure your back lifting or during football plays. However the classification of being injured is no longer the same. From what we’ve heard about Vanderdoes a hang nail could keep him off the field. Only one week away until the start of the new season, about time.

Vanderdoes is bitch with a “sore back”. F her. Way better off without that little diva.

I see that bernhtp can be as crude and pathetic as the man he refers to.

It really is a special talent that must be cultivated.

Only through the eyes of the beholder. Must be seriously lacking in self worth.

Being an old fart I leave the name-calling and other pleasantries to you youngsters

I think we’re going to be fine. The fact that 13 Weis recruits who were ‘coached up’ by Kelly and his staff wound up in NFL summer camps (don’t know how many are still there) tells me that when it comes to ‘coaching up’ their own recruits they’ll be even better.

    RKG, next guy in.

though i am still sad about danny spond, i suspect will jaylon smith will do the position justice and over the course of the season we will hear “he just doesn’t look like a freshman” many times, as well as “just wait until he packs on 20 more pounds of muscle.”
