Do you think we are becoming too predictable with the audibles and the adjustments? It’s been pretty visible in a couple of games where defense will line up, wait for Tommy to change the play and then get in a different formation with :02 on the clock. Tommy goes through with the play anyway for yet another incompletion.

  2. irish4006 - Sep 25, 2013 at 1:52 PM

Another one: What, in your opinion, will it take to beat Oklahoma?

  3. runners00 - Sep 25, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Our running backs haven’t quite been able to get started in 2013. Is the problem our offensive line, our play calling or our running backs?

  4. ndcanuck - Sep 25, 2013 at 2:21 PM

Looking at the rest of the schedule, if ND loses Saturday does that end any realistic hope of a BSC bowl? If so, does that change the coaches approach to the line up going forward (i.e. playing some freshmen)?

  5. jerseyshorendfan1 - Sep 25, 2013 at 2:31 PM

Keith, do you think we will see any production out of the slot in this game; also I have a feeling that Bryant may get some work this week after his brief appearance last week. Your thoughts?

  6. don74 - Sep 25, 2013 at 2:43 PM

    1. The live blog is fun for a fan but how much of the game do you see when handling comments and commenting yourself? How many times to you need to watch the game to see what went on?

    2. The season is 25% complete. What are the bright spots?

    • papadec - Sep 25, 2013 at 7:23 PM

      3-1!!!!!!

  7. irishaggie - Sep 25, 2013 at 3:13 PM

Since 2010 Tommy is 8-1 as a starter at Notre Dame Stadium and has 14 TD’s, 5 INT’s and completes 62% of his passes. In play action he’s deadly. In single set………….hhmm not so much and when he throws more than 30 passes his accuracy decreases exponentially. Should Andrew Hendrix be used more as the effective runner he is?

    • idratherbeinsouthbend - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:51 PM

      exponentially? prove it

  8. ohiond - Sep 25, 2013 at 3:51 PM

I was at the Mich. State game. It appeared to me that “time management” issues reared their ugly head again. ND had to burn a couple of time outs early which made the late 1st half red zone very one dimensional. There were a couple of delay of game penalties as well. Why is this happening with a QB that has been in the system for 4-years? Is this more on the coaches or is it Tommy taking too much time checking out of what is called?

  9. ohiond - Sep 25, 2013 at 3:56 PM

How much does not having EG at QB hurt ND’s running game? It seems like defenses are stacking the box week in/out and making ND rely on the passing game and/or runs to the edge. A mobile QB that is also a threat to run seems like it would loosen things up a bit in the run game. Go Irish!

  10. irishlee10 - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:01 PM

How much of Malik Zaire will we see Saturday? And, in what situations?

    • idratherbeinsouthbend - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:53 PM

If you’re at the game, you’ll see him every time you look at the sidelines. If you’re watching on TV, the chances of seeing him are few and far between.

    • papadec - Sep 25, 2013 at 7:25 PM

Hopefully not at all because we’re winning the game.

      • dickasman - Sep 26, 2013 at 1:17 AM

In that case I hope we get blown out because Tia the season for rebuilding not false hopes

  11. jerseyirish10 - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:24 PM

Keith, with all the talk of Tommy getting stronger over the Spring/Summer, he seems consistently high and long on his throws. He also is almost wanting to show it off with his long bombs. Is the “more strength” causing issues in his accuracy, which was one of better qualities? Oh, and hi Mrs. Arnold.

  12. yllibnosredna - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:34 PM

Based on what you’ve seen ON THE FIELD from ND this season, give three reasons why Notre Dame fans should be at all optimistic about a win this Saturday against Oklahoma.

    • ctfivula - Sep 26, 2013 at 11:42 AM

This is the best question so far. I hate to be negative but I have to agree here. I will admit i am not totally impressed with the Sooners either but I am even less impressed with the Irish. I have bet against them every week thus far and am up 4 bills. I think I will lay the points with the Sooners this week also.

  13. ibleedirish - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:42 PM

Why is it, that at Cincinnasty, where it is markedly easier to get in school (and stay in school), the kids could grasp the offense just fine, yet in four years at ND, with top notch scholar-athletes being the norm, the only person that we’ve ever heard about with an understanding of this system is Tommy Friggin Rees?

Its a serious question. You’d think we were talking string theory here.

    • dbldmr - Sep 26, 2013 at 12:06 PM

Yeah, but our guys can discuss the Higgs Boson particle. I just wish it had something to do with success on third down.

  14. steincj36 - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:44 PM

Where is the play action offense? Especially from the pistol?

  15. irishwilliamsport - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:47 PM

Keith, I enjoy this forum very much, my first question is with all the talent on this team why is this team so lackluster and predictable on both sides of the ball this year ?

Second, do you think BK made a mistake not to name Nix and Rees Captains ? Why would he let Nix run the ball in the spring game and not name him a captain ?

Lastly, do you think the role of the tight end will expand as the season goes on ?

  16. idratherbeinsouthbend - Sep 25, 2013 at 4:58 PM

    Keith,

Which tire category should i choose to get the most comfortable ride?

    • irish4006 - Sep 25, 2013 at 5:47 PM

Grand Touring or Touring, depending on the site.

  17. NotreDan - Sep 25, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Do you think Kelly should take over the play calling from Chuck Martin? If not, why?

  18. don74 - Sep 25, 2013 at 6:30 PM

Kelly and Belichick played golf together and decided to visit each other’s programs. Is it just a coincidence that the Irish Offense and the Pat’s Offense is out of synch this year?

    • don74 - Sep 25, 2013 at 6:30 PM

      are out of synch

  19. ndfaithful - Sep 25, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Do you think OU will bring their own “Play Like a Chumpion Today” sign?

  20. dmacirish - Sep 26, 2013 at 10:57 AM

we have created expectations for the football program to meet – based largely on the paper facts that the team last year was 12-0. a large portion of those games last year were close and needed some goal line stands, wind from the heavens, etc. for the game to go notre dame’s way. even with that, at the end of the regular season when the number 1 was turned on in south bend a lot of people were able to enjoy those close victories rather then condemn the coaching staff for them.

why do we see a portion of the fanbase condemning the coaches and team – especially the quarterback – for winning close games this year? shouldnt our expectations adjust from where they were 3 years ago to what we are actually seeing on the football field? do you see the rest of the season being tight games? should we really be upset when we win, just not by the margin that vegas had said we would?

  21. dudeacow - Sep 26, 2013 at 11:11 AM

Will our friend Nicky down south take the future Texas job? Sure would be fun to see what their ‘insightful’ trolls would have to say about it.

  22. 4horsemenrideagain - Sep 26, 2013 at 11:28 AM

isn’t blake bell just a little over-rated and getting a bit too much ink leading up to this game? he put up nice numbers against some weak sisters this year, and yes, he plowed one in against ND last year, but isn’t it a bit early to declare him the next great thing?

somewhere else it was suggested that since he is OU’s full-time starter, rather than a short yardage option like last year, OU will be hesitant to use him as much to pound the ball. if not using him as a consistent running threat, doesn’t bell just become a fairly immobile pocket passer?

  23. tburke9601 - Sep 26, 2013 at 11:29 AM

What side of the board do you more associate with right now regarding the season? Are you closer to “Nude and Dick’s the season is over and lets lick our wounds” or “we are 3-1 and still have a chance at a BCS bowl”?

  24. blackirish23 - Sep 26, 2013 at 11:39 AM

Keith, I doubt you’ll get to my questions but here goes:

    1. Does Tommy have the green light to change from a run play to a pass play at the line of scrimmage?
    2. If he does, do you think Defensive Coordinators are winning at the line of scrimmage by having him check to passing plays on first downs, hence our poor performance on first down plays?
    3. Does the lack of a running game have anything to do with our 5 man rotation? What I mean is, no running back gets a chance to break a sweat or establish a rhythm before being subbed out. Should Kelley give them a chance at playing a few series before bringing in the next back?
    4. Last question: Zahm Hall – Great Dorm or The Greatest Dorm?

    Thanks sir and Go Irish!!
