The first Amway Coaches Poll has been released and Notre Dame checks in at 17th in the preseason poll. It’s a fair spot for the Irish, who are coming off a 9-4 season and have talent — but also questions — on both sides of the ball.

With the College Football Playoff in place and a new presenting sponsor, the preseason poll certainly doesn’t have the luster of those in the past, considering it’s an essentially meaningless exercise. But it’s a good look at the perception entering preseason, especially considering the coaches taking part.

Notre Dame’s schedule continues to look challenging, with a date against No. 1 Florida State in Tallahassee down the road. The Irish will also take on No. 11 Stanford, No. 15 USC, No. 18 Arizona State and No. 23 North Carolina. Michigan, Louisville and Northwestern also received votes.

Here’s the Amway Coaches Poll in its entirety:

No. 1 Florida State (56)
No. 2 Alabama
No. 3 Oklahoma (3)
No. 4 Oregon (1)
No. 5 Auburn
No. 6 Ohio State (1)
No. 7 UCLA
No. 8 Michigan State
No. 9 South Carolina (1)
No. 10 Baylor
No. 11 Stanford
No. 12 Georgia
No. 13 LSU
No. 14 Wisconsin
No. 15 USC
N0. 16 Clemson
No. 17 Notre Dame
No. 18 Arizona State
No. 19 Ole Miss
No. 20 Texas A&M
No. 21 Kansas State
No. 22 Nebraska
No. 23 North Carolina
N0. 24 Texas
No. 25 Washington

117th is a good ranking for the lazy leprechauns. I predict the irish will over achieve this year and win three games. nah there not that good.

john you moron the NFL has nothing to do with the NCAA. it should but it does not. Let me guess Notre Dame class of 89. moron would have got a better education from a career college.
