Stanford will be without Christian McCaffrey.
Head coach David Shaw broke the news to NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen, with Stanford’s star runner not available against the Irish after leaving last week’s game with an undisclosed injury. It’s a huge break for Notre Dame’s beleaguered defense, with Stanford now looking to replace the team’s leading rusher, receiver and return man.

Behind McCaffrey are sophomores Bryce Love and Cameron Scarlett. Love has 21 carries on the year while Scarlett has just eight.
