WOW! I just watched his 11 minute highlite film. This kid's got SPEED. I realize some of his cut-back-across-the-field moves might not work at the next level against guys bigger, stronger, faster than his high school opponents, but he can flat out fly and make people miss. Finishes, too. Adds excitement to bubble screens - a BK favorite to get the ball in the hands of playmakers. Instant huge upgrade to punt returns (sorry Goodie), if the scheme includes blocking and setting up a return rather than have 5 guys stand 3 yards deep in the offensive backfield to protect against a fake. Pretty impressive chucking of receivers at line on defense, too, even if only selected plays shown. Not getting too excited yet, but excited nonetheless. Almost agree with Andy and say let's get going.

Hey Davonte, I might've said some things, on a previous post, that weren't entirely flattering to you. You have to realize, I was reacting in the heat of the moment. I saw those little kids in Arizona, eyes wide with hope, left stranded on their multi-purpose room floor, waiting for their hero to arrive. Anyway, I heard that you showed up later and personally apologized to each class. So there's really no need to go back and read those old posts, is there buddy? So we're cool, right? I promise, if you develop a decent return game, I'll never say another unflattering thing about you. Welcome to ND.

I agree Nudes
He'll be fine, I have reservations about what to order for dinner sometimes but once I bite in I'm fine.
As to whether he would be better suited for D....you can make a case either way. IMO he can step right in and compete at CB at which I think he could be a standout cover guy and is a major position of need. As for offense, we do have a lot of slot guys but this guy's a home run threat EVERYTIME he touches the ball. There is no way he can be on the sideline while the offense is on the field. If there's anyone who can make a case for playing two ways (three if you count ST) he's the guy. I'm no expert but I watch a lot of film on all these recruits and I haven't seen anyone who's as dominant from a skill player standpoint. I wouldn't let this kid of the field.

Well he confirmed what many of us thought was going on:

Dad was thinking big picture (ND education) and he was thinking small picture (playing with his buds at UA).

To me, the most important thing was his unambiguous affirmation that ND is where he wants to be. Probably a small part of him wishes he could hang with his homies in Tucson, but when he gets to SB and his new teammates, that will no longer be an issue. I hope.

The 24/7sports one is sped up a little so you don't get the real speed. The other video looks like only Davonte is in FF. Amazing! The separation he gets is redick!

Living in the area here, this is consistent with what I've heard about him. Good kid, feet firmly on the ground, good teammate, etc.

Sounds like he'll do well at ND

Nah, solution cannot just be find less talent. I think what BK did at Cincinnati was a fluke in terms of speed to reach great success. At ND it will take longer to establish a program that delivers consistent excellence, but I believe that BK has both the strategic and the detail-level focus needed to accomplish this here.

But I think that you are correct in the sense that ND will likely never have talent equal to Alabama's, so the system here will need to incorporate some key RKGs to achieve success. Win big AND graduate guys like Chris Stewart? Awesome in this day and age!

But I think that you are correct in the sense that ND will likely never have talent equal to Alabama’s, so the system here will need to incorporate some key RKGs to achieve success. Win big AND graduate guys like Chris Stewart? Awesome in this day and age!

After the idiot savant(e) I mean Deonte passed on the irish this will be a great addition to coach kelly's program. Truly looking forward to seeing Devonte pull some AND 1 like moves while returning for the irish this fall. Rumor has it that Devonte's mom gives him a smiley pie whenever he scores a touchdown. South bend better stock up!

Don't know if you'll be able to open this or not, but this is Neal's video pkg.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-football/analysis-neal-to-notre-dame-1102611

As impressive as his offense is, there is one defensive play her makes (in a practice drill) that made my jaw drop.

Could it be that with other burners already on the roster (K Russell, G Atkinson) and other solid slot guys (Farley, Toma, Riddick if they don't move him to RB) that they actually would be better served by putting Neal on D?

BEFORE YOU ANSWER and say "Gotta have him on offense", WATCH THE VIDEO.
Tell me if you see the same thing I see.

I have a very keen memory of the Kelly era game coaching transgressions, and could list them all. 2012 needs to be a much cleaner year re: penalties, killer turnovers and overall throwing games away.

But anyone who can't see that the program trajectory is upward is just extremely unobjective or pessimistic by nature. I see 2012 as a much better year.

One of the moves that I expect to pay big dividends in 2012 is moving Martin to OC. He sounds like the real deal, and there's no doubt they badly underachieved on that side of the ball in 2011. More discipline alone wins them 2 more games.

Just found this interview with Prestwood from July 2011
Sounds like a very good kid.
6'6" 280 coming out of HS 1 year ago.Probably up over 300 now
3 Stars Rivals ranking

July 27, 2011

Jake Brown
IrishIllustrated.com Recruiting Analyst

Talk about it in The Four Horsemen Lounge
When the recruiting process began Jordan Prestwood could never have guessed how circuitous his route to Notre Dame would be. The former three-star offensive tackle from Florida committed to the Irish, de-committed, enrolled at Florida State and is now just days away from returning to South Bend as a transfer.

Prestwood spoke with Irish Illustrated on Wednesday about the process and what lies ahead.

Irish Illustrated: First of all, walk me through the process of leaving Florida State and transferring to Notre Dame.

Jordan Prestwood: It's been good. I just had to get my release and then, of course, wait for the Notre Dame coaches to contact me. Just all that then go through the whole application process again. That took a little while just because I had some classes and I had to get my transcript back out and all that. It wasn't too bad because I pretty much knew I was gonna get in. I just had to wait until it was final to let anybody know.

II: Were there any questions along the way if it would play out the way you wanted or were the coaches pretty reassuring it would just take some time?

JP: They were pretty reassuring. I can't just come out and say I knew right away but they were pretty reassuring. They said I had to go through the process again and just the whole thing started over with my high school transcripts and stuff.

II: To have it done and know you're leaving for Notre Dame on Aug. 3, how does it feel to have that all complete?

JP: It feels great. I'm glad. I thank God. I'm pretty blessed it all worked out the way it did and they gave me a second chance after making a mistake going one place. I just feel really blessed that everything worked out the way it did.

II: Now going back to your time at Florida State, is there anything you can share about why you chose to leave in favor of Notre Dame after the spring semester?

JP: Like I said before, it was nothing against Florida State at all. It was a great place and I still like it there and all that. It was just Notre Dame is the spot for me. I felt like I had made a huge mistake going to Florida State. I just needed to get to where I needed to be. There was really nothing against Florida State.

II: How valuable do you think it was for you to get that time in as an early enrollee at Florida State even though it didn't end up working out?

JP: It was very valuable. I got to work under coach (Rick) Trickett that whole spring. He's a great line coach. I was able to start in the spring game and go against some of the top athletes in the nation, so it really helped me out with my game.

II: When you get thrown right into it in spring practice like that what do you learn about yourself as a player?

JP: I always knew I was athletic and a pretty good player but when I got there I really needed some toughness. I knew I was tough but a lot more toughness came out of me. I just really, really worked out. A lot of ability I didn't realize I had came out in the spring game. I graded out very well. Everything worked out pretty good.

II: Now as you look forward, you'll get thrown right into practice basically as soon as you get to Notre Dame. How much do you look forward to getting back to football and putting all this behind you?

JP: I'm excited. It's all just been talk these last couple months so I'm ready to get back in the swing of things and start working hard and get people better.

II: What's been the reaction of some of the guys you knew, like Aaron Lynch, to the news that you're coming back?

JP: Aaron was really excited. A lot of the other guys, a lot of the o-line commits were all excited once they all found out and I went up there to see all them. It's real good to be welcomed back like that.

II: What's it been like re-connecting with wide receivers coach Tony Alford since he was son instrumental in recruiting you in the first place?

JP: It's huge. Me and him are extremely close now because we've been through this whole process. I really thank God that him and coach (Brian) Kelly and the whole coaching staff gave me an opportunity even with me flip-flopping so much. I was being an immature kid doing that, making mistakes. I really appreciate they're giving me the opportunity to come back and give me the privilege to play for Notre Dame.

II: Now when you went up there a few weeks ago to visit and sort through all this, what were some of the high points of getting up there again?

JP: It was really just getting there and being back in South Bend. The atmosphere of the whole town, the campus, being able to walk through there again and just getting that whole feeling I got in the recruiting process that sold me on Notre Dame. Then just being able to get back with the coaches. I hadn't seen them in awhile and hadn't seen coach Alford in awhile or a lot of the guys in a long time. It was just great getting up there to get back with them.

II: What are you expectations now for putting on the pads and getting started again here in a week or so?

JP: As you know, I can't play this season as a redshirt but I'm just excited to get out there. Even though I can't play I'm still gonna go all out. I'm gonna work my hardest so even though I can't play they wanna play me. I wanna get people better and just do my job.

II: Last thing. As you look back on the process - committed to Notre Dame, not committed, going to Florida State, now back to Notre Dame - what do you think about all of it and how it worked out in the end?

JP: Recruiting is a crazy thing. It was all exciting at first in the beginning of my junior year and then it started getting a little hectic. It's one of those things where you really have to do your research on the schools and know where you wanna be at before you make a decision. Like I said before, I'm just really blessed that I get the opportunity to go back to Notre Dame. People make mistakes but I'm glad I'm able to get back to where I need to be.
