While most of the speculation surrounding Rob Ianello has been about keeping him in the fold as an assistant under the next head coach, Ianello might very well be on the move regardless.
Pete Sampson at Irish Illustrated reports that Ianello has interviewed for head coaching vacancies at San Jose State and Akron. Sampson adds that he was “coveted by both programs.”
This would be Ianello’s first opportunity to be a head coach, after a coaching career that’s spanned over two decades at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Alabama.
Sampson’s source expects a decision on the Akron job to come as soon as tomorrow.
