Other than fitting Boston College into one of two open dates, there weren’t many moves left to be made in the 2011 schedule. Putting the Eagles back in November gives the Irish an open week before they take on USC at home.

The 2012 schedule should rank among the toughest in the country, with games against Michigan, Miami, Oklahoma, and USC all on tap. There isn’t a cake-walk game on the schedule, and neutral site games in Dublin against Navy and in Soldier Field against Miami have to be two of the more intriguing games the Irish have played in a long time. (When traveling to Norman to play Oklahoma isn’t among your two best road trips, you’re playing a pretty dynamic schedule.)

Any questions about whether scheduling Western Michigan and Tulsa would be the exception or the rule for Jack Swarbrick should now officially be answered. Gone is the 7-4-1 scheduling paradigm that Kevin White designed, with Swarbrick instead scheduling 6-5-1 for 2011 and 6-4-2 in 2012.
