A very important fax just came into the Gug this morning as running back Greg Bryant officially signed with Notre Dame this morning. Let’s take a look at the five-star running back from Florida.

GREG BRYANT
Delray Beach, Florida

Measureables: 5-foot-11, 197-pounds
Accolades: Five-star prospect Rivals, ESPN, MaxPrep. No. 2 running back in country, Rivals. Second-team USA Today All-American. First-team All-State Florida 3A. U.S. Army All-American.
Impressive Offers: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Tennessee
Projected position: Running Back

Quick Take: Notre Dame is landing a monster running back recruit in Bryant. Just how good? Consider he’s the second highest offensive recruit the Irish have ever signed in the modern recruiting era, behind just Jimmy Clausen. That said, Bryant won’t wow you with his impressive size (he’s a shade under 200 pounds) or his elite speed (he’s not the home run threat Tarean Folston is). But he is the type of running back that can carry the load for a team, and he’ll walk onto campus a threat to win the starting job from day one.

What it means for the Irish roster: The Irish have their replacement for Theo Riddick. In fact, consider Bryant Riddick 2.o, with better size, speed and hands than Riddick had walking onto campus. With George Atkinson possessing all the talent in the world, but yet to put it all together, Bryant will have the benefit of playing in a similar offensive system in high school and the confidence to push a depth chart without any clear-cut order.

Obligatory YouTube highlight tape: Here’s a look at Bryant’s impressive junior season, when he ran for over 2,000 yards. (Also a shorter link to his senior season.)
