Faxes In: Hunter Bivin

Hunter Bivin

Notre Dame has officially added another blue-chip offensive line prospect to join Harry Hiestand’s troops. Let’s take a look at long-time commit Hunter Bivin.

HUNTER BIVIN
Owensboro, Kentucky

Measureables: 6-foot-6, 290-pounds
Accolades: First-team All-State AP and Louisville Courier-Journal. Four-star prospect, Rivals, ESPN and 247. Under Armor All-American. State Champion Shot Put.
Impressive Offers: Auburn, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Wisconsin
Projected Position: Guard/Center.

Quick Take: There’s a lot to like about Bivin, a guy with the size and athleticism to be a tackle, but the versatility to play inside or outside on the Irish offensive line. A state champion in track and field and a starter on the high school basketball team, Bivin comes to campus as an athlete along the offensive line, with Harry Hiestand getting a good look at him before deciding where he ends up. With the Irish needing to replace the interior of its offensive line, there might be a quicker path to the starting lineup at guard or center, two positions Bivin could play.

What it means for the Irish roster: Notre Dame is shoring up the offensive front, with numbers mighty thin thanks to some injuries and attrition. Depending on the website, Bivin is somewhere between a very good and elite prospect, though there’s no immediate need for him to step on campus and contribute. After playing an offensive front that looks like five guards, bringing in jumbo-sized players like Bivin will help Notre Dame continue to win battles on the line of scrimmage.

Obligatory YouTube highlight tape: Here’s a video of Bivin’s junior season. (Also, here’s a link to Bivin squatting 500 pounds. Paul Longo might have something to say about the technique.)
