As expected, Kendall Moore took to Instagram yesterday and announced his departure from Notre Dame. The fifth-year linebacker was likely to play a reserve role for the Irish this season before the academic investigation took him off the field, ending his football career before his final season could start.

“Notre Dame has rendered its decision. While it is disappointing, I will respectfully leave my alma mater as a proud May 2014 graduate of the institution that I have respectfully loved and given my best efforts during my college career,” Moore said on Instagram.

The six-foot-1, 251-pound linebacker ended up playing in 39 career games for Notre Dame, making 37 tackles with three TFLs. He made a key interception in the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers, the final game of his career.

After being named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year as a redshirt freshman in 2010, Moore struggled to beat out a talented group of inside linebackers like Manti Te’o, Dan Fox, Carlo Calabrese and Jarrett Grace, but carved a niche on special teams. He would’ve likely played a similar role on the 2014 team, though able to add a run-stopping presence and heft on the inside at linebacker.
