Deion Colzie appears set to end his recruiting process where it began, with Notre Dame. The consensus four-star receiver rejoined the Irish class of 2021 on Monday, six months after decommitting from his original October pledge.
Colzie (Athens Academy; Ga.) said he felt he had made a rushed decision when he reopened his recruitment. Six months of quarantine should have helped slow that down by now, and in his recent comments to Blue & Gold Illustrated, it came across as a sure thing that Colzie would make today’s choice for Notre Dame, rather than Tennessee or Florida.
“It definitely comes down to the school itself, academically,” Colzie said. “Football doesn’t last forever. I want a school where a degree from there would hold a lot of weight. Also, a family atmosphere where I can feel at home and feel comfortable and somewhat that my family is comfortable with. That’s the best place for me.”
No offense to apparent runner-up Tennessee or long-presumed favorite Georgia, those might as well be words off Irish recruiting pamphlets.

The No. 107 recruit in the class, per rivals.com, Colzie’s 6-foot-4 frame gifts him both a long stride and a wide reach, physical assets enough to dominate at the prep level. Admittedly, only high school film is available at this point in his career, but when comparing his sophomore and junior seasons, Colzie’s shoulders seem noticeably broader, suggesting his frame will fill out a good bit moving forward, putting another physical asset on the table before he gets to South Bend.
With natural hands, the body control that should come with that maturation pencils Colzie right into the Miles Boykin/Chase Claypool in Notre Dame’s offense.
Colzie joins fellow four-star receiver Lorenzo Styles (Pickerington Central High School; Ohio) as the only receivers in the class, now at 18 commitments. Given the uncertain nature of roster limits following the current unorthodox season, the Irish may not expand the class all that much further between now and the December signing day.
