How to watch Notre Dame vs Stanford tonight and the Irish all season; TV, Peacock info for 2022

The college football action continues tonoight as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the Stanford Cardinal at home on Saturday, October 15. Live coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. See below for additional information and how to watch/stream the Notre Dame vs Stanford game.

Saturday’s game marks the 36th meeting between the two programs. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 22-13 and has won 3 straight games against the Cardinal. Extending that streak to four-straight wins would be the longest from Notre Dame since winning seven games in a row from 2002 to 2008.

The Irish (3-2) are on a three-game win streak after defeating the then-No. 16 BYU Cougars 28-20 on Saturday in the Shamrock Series in Las Vegas. Junior quarterback Drew Pyne finished 22-of-28 for 262 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the win. In his three starts this season, Pyne is 63-of-85 (74.1 percent) for 701 yards with eight touchdowns and just one interception.

Junior tight end Michael Mayer had a career-best performance last weekend finishing with 11 catches — a Notre Dame record for a tight end in a game — for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Irish head coach Marcus Freeman believes Mayer is just getting started:

“He’s special, man,” Freeman said from Allegiant Stadium. “He is a special football player. But the thing you love about Michael Mayer is he’s the hardest worker. When your best player is your hardest worker, that’s the greatest example you can have for young guys and your entire team.

“I’m just going to continue to push him, continue to be the hardest worker we have.”

Stanford is coming off its fourth straight loss of the season after falling to Oregon State 28-27 on Saturday at home. The Cardinal, led by David Shaw in his 12th season as head coach, currently has one of the worst-ranked defenses in the FBS, allowing 32.8 points per game, 431.6 yards per game and 207 rush yards per game. Additionally, Stanford has lost 11 straight games to FBS opponents and 10 straight to Pac-12 teams. Shaw says that consistency has been an issue for this team:

“Our good plays, our good drives — offense, defense, special teams — are really good, and our bad plays are really bad. Sometimes it’s hard to rectify,” Shaw said. “The same group is out there. But it’s not just the players. Some of the things we are asking them to do, some of the positions we are putting them in, some things we need to emphasize more, some things we need to emphasize less.”

The No. 8 Irish (9-1) are just one win away from their fifth consecutive 10-win season after picking up a 28-3 victory at Virginia last Saturday. Notre Dame has won its last five games since losing to still-undefeated Cincinnati in early October. Running back Kyren Williams has been a consistent force for the Irish offense, rushing for 116.6 yards per game and seven touchdowns during that win streak. In last Saturday’s win, quarterback Jack Coan went 15-for-20 for 132 yards with three touchdowns and one interception while star tight end Michael Mayer had seven catches for 84 yards and a touchdown — his first since touchdown catch in eight games.

The Yellow Jackets (3-7) have now lost four straight games after falling to Boston College 41-30 last Saturday, dropping Georgia Tech to its third straight losing season. The team has struggled defensively all year, allowing more than 475 yards in each of the last six games and conceding more than 26 points in each of those games. Additionally, the Yellow Jackets have the ACC’s second-worst passing defense, allowing 271.9 yards per game through the air, including 335.1 yards per game over their last seven games. Offensively, the team has managed to score 30-plus points in four of their last five games despite the losing record. Sophomore running back Jahmyr Gibbs leads the team in rushing yards (687), receptions (35), and receiving yards (474).

Saturday’s match-up will be the 37th meeting between the two teams who first met 99 years ago in 1922, however, this will be only the fifth meeting since 2000 (2006, 2007, 2015, 2020). Notre Dame leads the series 29-6-1 and won their last game in 2020.

Notre Dame and Navy will resume their historic series after missing a year in 2020 for the first time since 1927. Even through World War II, unlike the Irish rivalry with USC, Notre Dame kept playing the Midshipmen.

After 93 years, the 94th meeting just took a little longer. The Irish hold a 79-13-1 record in the series, including winning 43 straight from 1964 to 2006 and eight of the last nine matchups.

Live coverage of today’s game begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. See below for additional information on how to watch. The game kicks off an hour later than most Notre Dame home afternoon games, not coincidentally a day before clocks “fall back” at the end of daylight saving time.

The No. 10 Irish are now 7-1 after picking up a 44-34 win last Saturday against UNC, posting season-bests in points scored (44), total yards (523), and rushing yards (293). Junior running back Kyren Williams rushed for a career-best 199 yards, highlighted by a 91-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. Quarterback Jack Coan went 16-for -24 against the Tar Heels, passing for 213 yards and a touchdown. Coan also rushed for a 21-yard touchdown — his longest with the Irish — in the third quarter.

The Midshipmen are 2-6 after a 20-17 victory at Tulsa last Friday, not needing a single completion to get the win, perhaps the platonic form of a triple-option offense. THat offense averages 222.5 rushing yards per game.

Senior fullback Isaac Ruoss currently leads the team in rushing with 437 yards and two touchdowns on the season but it was Carlinos Acie, a senior slot back, who carried the team with 80 rush yards on three carries against Tulsa last week.

The Midshipmen are led by Ken Niumatalolo, in his 14th season with Navy and perhaps his most tumultuous season after the Academy’s athletic director fired longtime offensive coordinator Ivin Jaspar early in the season before Niumatalolo advocated to bring Jaspar back as the quarterbacks coach

The Irish improved to 6-1 with last Saturday’s 31-16 triumph at home over cross-country rival USC. Quarterback Jack Coan went 20-for-28 with 189 pass yards, one touchdown and an interception. The graduate transfer once again shared snaps with freshman quarterback Tyler Buchner who was 2-for-2 with 24 yards and scored a rushing touchdown late in the fourth. Junior Kyren Williams finished with a season-high 25 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns, catching six passes for 42 yards in Saturday’s win.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame lost All-American safety Kyle Hamilton to a knee injury in the first quarter on Saturday and will miss this week’s game against the Tar Heels’ heralded passing attack. Senior DJ Brown will start in Hamilton’s absence, ironic considering Brown had to step in for Hamilton at North Carolina last year then Hamilton was ejected in the second quarter for targeting.

The Tar Heels are 4-3 after beating Miami, 45-42, two weeks ago. The team is led by junior quarterback Sam Howell who has started every game (32) since joining the Tar Heels as a freshman in 2019. The North Carolina native has a total of 23 touchdowns (18 pass, 5 rush) and 6 interceptions on the season. Howell, already UNC’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns (86), is on pace for a third consecutive season with 3,000-plus passing yards and 30+ touchdowns. He enters this game just 300 passing yards shy from becoming the Tar Heels’ all-time leading passer.

Tonight’s game will be the sixth meeting between these schools in the last 46 years. Notre Dame has had the upper hand in this series, winning 3 straight, 9 of the last 10, and 19 of 21 all-time. North Carolina has never won a game at Notre Dame Stadium.

After a one-year hiatus, Notre Dame and USC resume their rivalry tonight. Last season’s pause marked the first season since 1945 that the Irish and Trojans did not meet, snapping a 74-year streak of annual meetings. Before World War II, the rivalry extends back another 16 years. Live coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. See below for additional information on how to watch the game.

USC (3-3) is coming off an idle week after losing to Utah, 42-26, now three games behind the Utes in the Pac 12 South Division standings. USC fired head coach Clay Helton just two weeks into the season, naming passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach Donte Williams the interim head coach.

The Trojans’ offense has put up an average of 32.2 points per game, leaning on assets like junior receiver Drake London and senior running back Keaontay Ingram. London ranks second in the country in receptions with 64 and receiving yards per game with 138.7 while Ingram ranks seventh in the Pac-12 with 419 rushing yards. Defensively, junior linebacker Drake Jackson leads the team with three sacks and two turnovers forced but collectively the Trojans have struggled, giving up more than 40 points to half their opponents thus far this season.

Notre Dame (5-1) is also coming off of an idle week. This Saturday’s matchup kicks off a three-game homestand for the Irish. They lost their last game at Notre Dame Stadium, falling 24-13 to the Cincinnati Bearcats and snapping a 26-game home win streak, but redeemed themselves the following week with a 32-29 victory over Virginia Tech. Head coach Brian Kelly named quarterback Jack Coan as the starter for this week despite the fact that Coan has not taken every snap in a game since Notre Dame’s opener against Florida State, when he threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns.

Saturday’s game will be the 92nd meeting between the two teams in a rivalry that dates back to 1926. Notre Dame leads the series against USC 49-37-5.
